Angered Staten Island Resident Tells President Obama: “You Lied”

President Obama promised to help victims of Hurricane Sandy after the storm ravaged the East Coast. But after meeting with the president, one Staten Island family says he has broken that promise. Scott and Deidre McGrath joined Fox and Friends to tell their heartbreaking story.
Scott spoke to the president after the storm, in what he described as a “staged” meeting. He said, “They put us into this tent and they wanted to make believe we were shopping for our products. Most of the residents that live in that area were never up there.”
After waiting on line, Scott was able to talk to President Obama. He recalled saying, “President Obama, you said you were going to cut the red tape. You lied. And he says, ‘what do you mean?’ I said, you lied … you said you were going to cut the red tape; it hasn’t been cut for the middle class. What are you giving us, the royal finger?”
When the president asked about his concerns, Scott said he told him about FEMA giving them the runaround and Bank of America wanting them to keep paying a mortgage. President Obama said there wasn’t much he could do about the bank, but referred Scott to two aides to help with FEMA.
Over a month after the hurricane and promises from president of the United States himself, the McGraths say nothing has been done. They’re still living in their house despite not having gas, water or electricity. Thanks to the kindness of a neighbor, they were able to borrow a generator for heat during the night.
Frustrated by their current situation, Scott said, “You got to blame the president, you got to blame the local politicians, you even got to blame the borough president of Staten Island.” He added, “Nobody really wants to hear it. It’s all, you know, they’re always passing the buck.”
At a town hall meeting this past week, Staten Island residents got into a shouting match with government officials. The borough president at one point yelled at them to shut up. The McGraths were at that meeting and asked FEMA officials why they haven’t received trailers, like what was provided for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Scott said people cheered when they asked that question. On Fox and Friends, Scott’s plea was simple, “The holidays are coming up. People would rather be somewhere that they know they can go to every night.”

when will voters realize they are merely pawns & as far as I am concerned anybody in NY that voted democrat just got played. however politics being a contact sport means imo, you just help take the rational part of the country with you. act of God or manmade, tragedy is on the horizon for the entire country.

The citizens of NY & NJ begging for help is as tiring as it was from the trash in New Orleans demanding help also.
Why is it that in the middle of the country when a disaster happens, no one is demanding help? Oh, it is because we rush in and help our neighbors and help each other.
Utility companies and people tried to help the people in NY and NJ — they got ran out and sent home.
The people in “fly over country” help each other and the recipients are usually very grateful for any help that they receive.

Billions of our taxpayer dollars being spent around the world on people who hate our very existence, but nothing for those who voted in America. Sad.

We never heard this kind of bleating from those folks in Joplin, Missouri after that giant tornado tore their whole town to shreds. Those hardy people just rolled up their sleeves, dug in and got to work rebuilding.

moark dave, excellent pt. regarding the union utility workers sending the souths’ non union workers home. I realize it is the season but I am having a real problem feeling any empathy. yesterday while having a “conversation” I was told I was most likely racist & a zxenophobe. the more I replay that “conversation” I take it as a backhanded compliment & will continue to voice MY opinions while I relish political incorrectness. what I have observed is we as a Nation continue to poor money we don’t have in one rathole project after another with NO positive results. what’s that definition of insanity? but hey I’m just an insensitive worker bee.

Staten Island is a conservative area. There were probably a lot of people who voted for Romney there.
And suffering people are suffering people. I sent money for Joplin. I send money to read states after disasters. i would some kind people would send money to folks in NJ and Staten Island. I know several pastors whose homes have been totally ruined,

What is wrong with me that I don’t think the government owes these people anything? i’m pretty sure I wouldn’t expect some US dept of whatever truck to show up on my street if we had a flood or earthquake. I must have missed out on something somewhere. I figure I’d move in to an apartment or with my mom if I had no money and try to sort it out myself.

I find it very ironic, living in Florida..Those are some of the same New Yorkers who keep telling us that we’re always doing something wrong and yet after a hurricane we pull together and get back on our feet a lot faster..
Maybe it’s wrong..but I don’t feel sorry for them because they are their own worst enemy, we send them help and they refuse it.
The other point I’d like to make..they had over a week to prepare..and did nothing! (sounds just like New Orleans just before Katrina) you can’t fix stupid..
I survived 4 hurricanes so far, no one offered me any assistance..

Why doesn’t anyone remember what Opie told the Chicago crowd that sent him to Washington DC as their senator? when asked to come back and attend some fundraiser, he declined. When the Rev Wright asked why not, Opie said “I am a politician…we lie….say anything to get elected”?????? or Re-elected….
