Bankrupt Calif. town’s city attorney warns of public safety cuts: ‘Lock your doors and load your guns’
.San Bernardino is so bankrupt that the city’s attorney is advising residents to “lock your doors and load your guns,” in the face of budgetary cuts that have downsized the police force by 80 officers.
City Attorney Jim Penman made his comments to about 150 residents at a council meeting assembled to address the uptick in crime, including the recent murder of an elderly woman. Since 2011, the California city has seen a 50 percent increase in murders.
“Let’s be honest, we don’t have enough police officers. We have too many criminals living in this city,” Penman told KCBS-TV. “We have had 45 murders this year. That’s far too high for a city of this size.”

in retrospect, isn’t this an example of a california official promoting gun use? … to kill?

Jim Penman was on Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk show last night. He is a “Life” member of the NRA and doesn’t see eye-to-eye with the mayor.. uh hemm…imagine that.
It seems that LA county has been dumping its released felons in San Bernardino.

@Lagnar–
San Bernardino is claiming bankruptcy as a better explanation than being on the receiving end of L.A.’s unloading of felons?

As Calif. goes, soon goes the rest of the country.
(You didn’t really think that re-electing Gov. Moonbeam was going to help, did you?)

You mean some of the people in CA still have weapons? Use one, and see how fast your ass is locked up! No thank you !

As if you didn’t need to lock your doors and have your guns loaded in San Bernardino 20 years ago.

Regardless of where you live, that should be the normal thing to do. How many times have we heard “this is a quiet neighborhood, we never thought it would happen here!”

@Pickled Liver: People use guns here all the time and nothing happens to them. An elderly lady last year shot a meth addict who was coming through her kitchen window. He was fresh out of prison and she killed his ass. Nothing happened to her – it was self defense. I have no problem shooting someone breaking into my house – I have a right to protect myself and property.

The article doesn’t say how long ago they downsized. If it was last month, then their cops just suck.

Unfortunately if you’re a liberal you will see no down side to this.
This will be the new norm, no big deal, after all, Obama was re-elected.

Goldenfoxx, I thought you guys had to keep your weapons unloaded, trigger-locked, in a safe, with the ammo locked up in another county.

They cut 80 police officers. But how many employees does the city have with it’s Parks and Recreation Department and Roads and Maintenance Departments?
Cut the things people need first and foremost – so they agree to more taxes and costs. Why not cut out a large portion of the parks and activities first and let people pay to use that kind of fun?
