The city of Worcester, Massachusetts is asking citizens to bring their weapons to the police department next weekend as part of the city’s annual “Goods for Guns Buyback Program.”  In return for the guns, the city will offer gift certificates, and – a free flu shot.

Telegram.com reports:

“City residents, or residents of any other community, may bring their unwanted weapons, unloaded and wrapped in a bag, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to the Worcester Police headquarters in Lincoln Square, or from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 8 to the Worcester Division of Public Health, 25 Meade St.”

Since the program began in 2002, “Goods for Guns” has collected approximately 2,200 guns.  Last year 40 guns were collected by the police department.  Deputy Chief McGinn said guns that are turned in are destroyed.

The program allows individuals to anonymously turn in “unwanted and unloaded” guns to the police department.  In return, citizens are presented with a Wegman’s gift certificate.   The value of the gift depends on the type of gun.  For example, a long rifle earns a $25 gift certificate; handguns earn a $50 gift certificate, and a semiautomatic weapon, a $75 gift certificate.

This year, citizens of Worcester can receive a free flu shot for turning in a weapon. Also, individuals who bring guns directly from home to the police station will be granted amnesty if they are not properly licensed.

McGinn has said, “Come one, come all.  We’re not asking any names or questions.”

My, but aren’t we willing to sell of our freedom to the lowest bidder.

Welcome to the collective. We are the Borg.

    Resistance is necessary.

They’d probably frown if I set up a booth next door that traded guns for cash at $25 over the police gift value.

I hope the sops run the guns through the evidence lab to see if they have been used in any unsolved crime.
Criminals aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer, so they might think that getting something for a
weapon used in a crime and getting rid of the evidence will kill two birds with one shot. Pun intended.
But I can see some slimy lawyer (ok redundant) saying that evidence gathered this way would be unConsitutional.

If anyone believes that the guns were “destroyed”, I have some beachfront property in Phoenix for sale.

I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s good to go cruise the fools in line and see what they have… offer them a little more than they’re getting from the cops and you might score a decent firearm.

Alternatively, you could wait and mug the unarmed peasants as they leave.

Harrington & Richardson Arms plant in Worcester proudly built Reising submachine guns in WWII, M1 Garand rifles during the Korean war and finally M14 and M16 rifles during the Vietnam War helping to keep our nation free. Just another reminder of the liberal slave mentality running wide and deep in
    the state of Mass.

Smart move really. Gently disarm the populace (although most of these Mass idiots would give it up for free, oh wait they did in the last election) before all the chickens from their votes (Obamacare, massive tax increases, another stimulus for Obama’s pals) come home to roost and their eyes begin to open (as their wallets, oil tanks and larders empty out).

Does the City of Worcester have a Federal Firearms Permit? They are offering goods and services in exchange for guns. To the best of my knowledge, this requires such a permit.

And, when the intentions of obastard and the rest of his party to bring America to her knees begin to show – probably pretty soon – and the savages begin to prowl looking for someone to rob, rape, kill or just torture, those flu shots will keep them from having chills, fevers, coughs and runny noses when they finally get introduced to age old reality. Perhaps they can put some canned goods in socks and use them in extremis to ward off the attackers.

What they failed to mention is that last year, coincidntally, 40 gun thefts were reported to the police department.

I thought some more about this ridiculous guns for flu shots business. I realized it’s just a “dumbness test”. Kind of like sticking a meat thermometer into a roast to test for doneness.

Just a little temperature probe to see how successfully the citizenry has been dumbed down in Mass. Where they go from here all depends on how many people in Mass. who will actually stupidly take them up on this offer.
