Maybe Canada Can Adopt All the States That Want To Secede

Canadian PM Harper, heir apparent to the free world, stands up for freedom, personally intervened to stop ‘Palestinian’ terror statehood bid at UN

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper continues to pick up the slack left by an absent American president who has abandoned freedom across the world.

Nothing makes Obama look so small as a real leader.

“[W]hen Israel, the only country in the world whose very existence is under attack, is consistently and conspicuously singled out for condemnation, I believe we are morally obligated to take a stand,” Harper said last year.

The Canadian prime minister further affirmed that “as long as I am prime minister… Canada will take not that stand, whatever the cost.”

“Canadian PM Personally Intervened to Stop PA Statehood Bid at UN” INN, November 27, 2012

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper personally intervened to pressure PA Chairman Abbas to drop his bid for upgraded status at the UN.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper personally intervened to pressure Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to drop his bid for upgraded status at the United Nations.

Harper, who had been in New York to accept an award and attend the opening of a new session of the United Nations at the end of September, had “a short, brusque meeting with [Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud] Abbas,” the Globe and Mail newspaper reported.

“In a little room at the United Nations, Mr. Harper skipped most of the pleasantries in a 15-minute meeting, according to sources briefed on the session, and told Mr. Abbas he had come to deliver a message: If you keep doing what you’re doing, he said – referring to the Palestinian bid for upgraded status – ‘there will be consequences,’” the newspaper reported.

“It was just one part of the bare-knuckle approach Canada has taken toward the U.N. bid, though largely out of public view,” according to the newspaper.

In addition, Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has told several people, including Palestinian Authority representatives, that he would travel to New York personally to cast a vote against the bid.

There are more serious potential aspects to the “consequences” about which Harper warned, namely that Ottawa, which had pledged $300 million in aid over five years to the PA starting in 2008, could refuse to grant the generous sum again, as the period is about to run out.

Harper has long been recognized a strong friend of the Jewish state.

“[W]hen Israel, the only country in the world whose very existence is under attack, is consistently and conspicuously singled out for condemnation, I believe we are morally obligated to take a stand,” Harper said last year.

Harper said Canada must oppose demonization, double standards and de-legitimization.

“Not just because it is the right thing to do, but because history shows us, and the ideology of the anti-Israel mob tell us all too well, that those who threaten the existence of the Jewish people are in the longer term a threat to all of us,” he said.

I was surfing lefty websites today (so you wouldn’t have to) about the upcoming fiscal cliff. We now have to turn out of our country to find role model for freedom, justice and the American way. In an odd segway to my point, lefties kept pointing outside the US for examples of greatness.

    One site said:

“the US has one of the lowest tax rates of the modernized world and we should be more like country “X”…”

    another said:

“The US spends more money on its military than any other developed country on the planet, and we should be like country “Y”…”

    and yet another said:

“The US has the wealthiest people on the planet and they should act more like the people of country “Z”…”

    and I got to thinking…why don’t “X” “Y” and “Z” act more like us?

Hey Rick…not on my watch, we have enough lefties of our own and don’t need anymore. We’re finally getting some common sense in our politics.

This is a hopeful sign but Canada has a LOOOONG way to go to become the truly great nation I believe it can be. The stain of Trudeauism is “baked into the cake” in the form of the Charter and the overwhelmingly statist structure of the nation. I’m not a fan of the “Federal Parliamentary Democracy” form of government but seeing as how the three branch Constitutional Republic with a strong Executive has been (not) working lately, maybe there’s no real advantage after all! They still haven’t really shaken off the view of themselves as subjects of an imperial dominion rather than citizens of a free republic.

I could go on but I guess I would best sum my impressions of Canada as a country that has a potential for true greatness but has chosen a rather bland, dull niceness.

Up to a point, Lord Copper…

Our tax rates are lower than yours, and our banks ingeniously refused to give mortgages to welfare bums.

The Conservative Party has achieved Krauthammer et al’s dream of a multi-racial conservative party, appealing to the “natural conservatism” that seems to genuinely exist among many of our immigrants but may yours, not so much?

Harper just scrapped the $2 billion long gun registry, and getting a gun in Canada is harder than it is in the US but not impossible.

After considerable effort, our “hate speech” law was declared unconstitutional. and so on.

The trouble, as one commenter alluded to, is multiculturalism, which is written into the Charter.

And it doesn’t matter which party is in charge because a permanent mostly liberal bureaucracy will sabotage everything.

Even our so-called “conservatives” buy into multi-culti, gay marriage, save the planet hooey. They just vow to manage it more efficiently.

The Harper govt spends almost as freely as a Liberal one. He’s declared abortion (which is on demand here, up to nine months) off the table.

And the BIG problem: the next PM will likely be Justin Trudeau:

One of the reasons Canada still has too many lefties is all the draft dodgers we took in during the 70′s. That might have been the number difference for Reagan to beat Carter in ’80.
