Anonymous Hacker Looking at 30 Years to Life

According to the indictment filed in March, Hammond illegally obtained credit card information stolen from Stratfor and uploaded it to a server that was unbeknownst to him maintained by the federal government. Months earlier the FBI had arrested Hector Xavier Monsegur, a New York hacker who spearheaded LulzSec under the alias “Sabu,” and relied on from thereon out to help the authorities nab other individuals affiliated with Anonymous and LulzSec. The feds say Hammond openly admitted to compromising Stratfor’s data in online chats with their informant and unsealed a three count indictment against him relating to hacking back in March.

@Cody; not necessarily. Most of these “genius’s” aren’t actually that bright. They rely on the laziness of corporate IT administrators who leave open back-doors put in by computer manufacturers in order to grant them access in case something screws up or they use scripts already written by others to try to crack unpatched OS exploitables or try to crack weak passwords created by users to get in. In most cases it’s not some dark, misunderstood computer wiz it’s just some thief who if they weren’t doing this would be trying to lever the backdoor of the local liquor store at 3:00 A.M. The FBI really doesn’t have a use for these guys. Most of these hacking case would stop overnight if the IT admin folks took their jobs seriously and people started using tough passwords for critical stuff.

@scr_north. You are absolutely right. 99% of those “super humans” hackers are dumber than common thieves. Look at this one, he knew what and where he was stealing from, he didn’t have a slightest idea where he was storing the loot, right on Fed’s server. It doesn’t get any dumber than this.
