They can raise the debt ceiling to 100 brazillion dollars, and it won’t change the fact that nobody is buying our debt anymore. When they raise the debt limit next month our credit rating will drop again and then printing money is the only option left, and we all know what that leads to.

It’s one thing to be led by people who want to redistribute in the interests of gaining power through the redistribution and it is another thing to have people in power who want to have less to redistribute.

Here’s a novel concept. Let’s put the Dems in charge of the military budget and the Repubs in charge of the entitlement budget. For every % saved beyond a given goal (say 5% cuts in each) then the side with the greatest savings gets to apply the additional savings back to their favorite side of the budget. So if Dems manage to save 10% on the military and the Repubs manage to save 8% the Dems get to apply the extra 2% savings back toward entitlements.

Just to make sure everyone plays along we’ll add a stick to our agreement. If the Repubs fail to meet a minimum cutting goal then anyone making more than $250,000 will have to make it up in taxes. If the Dems fail to meet their minimum cuts then everyone in the lower income brackets have to make it up in taxes.

It’ll never happen, but one way or another it would lead to progress on getting the government back to rational basis of operations.

Here’s another novel concept:

If a Member of Congress agrees to spend so little as even one dollar, and cannot justify that expenditure by the Constitution in 10 words or less, we hang that Member by the neck with piano wire in some public place.

Any other Member who complains gets the same treatment.

Anyone who practices vote fraud and any politician who wins election through vote fraud gets the same treatment.

I guarantee they’d buck up real fast.
