Fordham University president Joseph McShane, S.J., faulted campus College Republicans for inviting Ann Coulter to speak, saying that her rhetoric appeals to the “darker side” of human nature.

“To say that I am disappointed with the judgment and maturity of the College Republicans, however, would be a tremendous understatement,” McShane said in a statement emailed to the university (the Young America’s Foundation has the email here). “There are many people who can speak to the conservative point of view with integrity and conviction, but Ms. Coulter is not among them. Her rhetoric is often hateful and needlessly provocative-more heat than light-and her message is aimed squarely at the darker side of our nature.”

On an earlier thread one of my favorite people here wrote something close to “There’s no reason our you people need to be Democrat”. This is the reason they are Democrats. The are being brain washed in our learning institutions. If we were going to forcibly clean house someplace. This would be the place. The ultimate joke, a conservative parent sends their kid off for a very expensive education, and they come back as a Socialist Robot.

If Ms. Coulter’s message is aimed at the “darker side of our nature”, a modern university is EXACTLY the place she should be.

Hmmm maybe they should just ban all political speech at educational institutions.

Surely that is an equitable solution?

    What do you mean unacceptable?

Has be a typo somewhere. This must be Fordham Elementary School, where the children are not considered to be mature enough to make their own choices about who they invite to speak.

This cautionary E-Mail by Joseph McShane is a dog whistle to the campus agitators to disrupt her speech.

Coulter makes the case for conservatism unlike any other. She speaks in the tone and language that the democrats use to vilify us. And they can’t take it because it turns over the rock they’re hiding under. Back at-cha demons!

Xavier, It’s not the political speeches that twist the young people. It’s the constant bombardment from scholars that are pissed off because the don’t make shit for money, and damnit they should because there just so well damn educated. I’ve met some of these ass hats. They can barely function in society, and they would never make it in the job market of the real world.

You have to remember that an awful lot of Catholics (particularly the intelligensia) feel that the Democrat idea of “social justice” aligns closely with the Catholics belief of justice. Both are a hell of a lot closer to socialism than either will care to admit in public. McShane is one of those and will take any chance to attack a real conservative that believes in an individuals right to succeed or fail based on their own effort. By the by, I’m a Catholic and far to many of my relatives believe in this social justice drivel.

I’m pasting a response to Bad Brad’s and my conversation about young students and the brainwashing that is happening in our schools (public and private). He respectfully disagrees that we have any hope of turning the tide (BB, please let me know if I’ve framed the debate correctly.)

@Bad Brad — Do you have any kids in high school right now? I have and she goes to one of the most liberal HS’s in Seattle. The school is known in the district as the party school, all the teachers are active in the union; a couple even work closely with that Bertha Lewis communist. I had to explain to the principal that communism was responsible for 100M+ deaths because he sided with one of my kid’s teachers over the comment “communism isn’t all that bad.” The list goes on, but my point is I know from first-hand experience what we’re up against. And yet…and yet even at this hell hole of openly communist activists there are important outposts of solitary defenders like my kid’s cheer coach and others who don’t toe the party line. And, more importantly, I hear A LOT of the conversations between the kids and they’re getting sick and tired of the obvious propaganda. They are laughing at these teachers behind their backs. These teachers are viewed as one-dimensional hacks and most of the kids know they’re using their classrooms as a bully pulpit for ringing the bell about so-called global warming, oppression of minorities and women, and the like. The kids are getting sick to death of everything being filtered through the lens of really outdated crap because they know better. They’re living it and know that the revised history doesn’t jibe with their own lives. Their teachers are trying to scare them to death and they’re getting fed up because it’s a real drag to be on the hook for every cockamamie story of woe that you’re not responsible for. The problem is no one is taking the time to tell them anything else in a way that let’s them feel okay about it. Instead, all they’ve got are idiots, in many cases, who were too stupid to do anything but rant about their pet causes and work it into every lesson plan for the next 30 years whether material conditions change or not. They’re static and pathetic.

    The kids know this.

I believe we conservatives have failed in two primary ways: First, we are not pushing back at all when our schools have assemblies that feature “cause” activists. For example, last year during “Black History Month” my daughter’s high school invited a well-known member of the BPP to speak. He spent an hour openly railing against white oppression. It was basically hate speech, legitimized by the Seattle School District and this high school. So much more to say about this.

Conservative parents do not buck the tide. We cower and don’t stand up at PTSA meetings, we don’t rock the boat. We don’t seek out like-minded parents and others and they are out there. There’s strength in numbers and we aren’t doing our job. The reason our schools get away with this crap is because they aren’t hearing from enough parents. If I’m the only one who’s calling the front office then I can be written off as a crank, which only strengthens the progtards’ argument that conservatives are deranged.

    Xavier perhaps I misunderstood you.

Until I heard two commentators discussing it on Fox, I had never heard Tweeting, texting and instant messaging referred to as “the social media”. Whenever I thought of “the media” per se, I aways thought of television, magazines, newspapers and radio, aka, the MSM or mainstream media.

Was it the former, rather than the latter to which you were referring when you reminded me of the influence that “the media” had on the election? If so, that would clarify your point for me.

(If not, I’ll assume that you were just babbling again.) :)

AbigailAdams, My kids are out of High School, my daughter spent 3 years ay ASU and 2 years at Chico. High School is bad enough, College is where the real pressure is applied. I have a son at a local community college right now and it’s just as bad. In High School the kids may think most of these Lefties are loons, but when they get older and get in College they start taking the relentless pressure a lot more seriously. Not to mention the peer pressure, let’s be cool and vote liberal for the good of the planet bull shit.

We won’t even get into how they are re writing history in the text books.

I’m sure, like my wife and I, you raised conservatives. Just prepare them for what they are going to face when they are of for college.

Fr. McShame is a disgrace to his order and to the Catholic church. It’s liberals like him who kept us from sending our kids to Parochial schools. In our area less than 10% of the kids who went to Catholic schools still go to mass. More than half the kids who went to public schools still attend Sunday services. Maybe Father McShame should ask who the deepest, darkest part of purgatory is reserved for.
