Krauthammer: Obama has ‘no mandate,’ GOP future ‘quite bright’
On Fox News Channel’s coverage of the presidential election, syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer seemed to handle Gov. Mitt Romney’s loss as well as anyone on the right could be expected to, particularly given the surprisingly wide margin.
Going forward, Krauthammer explained that President Barack Obama will not be as strong as he was in the early part of his first term, when his party held majorities in both chambers of Congress.
“I think the real story here is that Obama won, but he’s got no mandate,” Krauthammer declared. “He won by going very small, very negative, and we are left as a country exactly where we started, but a little bit worse off. The Republicans are in control of the House, probably a little bit stronger. They are not going to budge. There’s no way after holding out on Obama for two years they’re going to cave in, and Obama doesn’t have anywhere really to go. He governed very large in the first two years.”
Krauthammer cited Obamacare and the stimulus, but explained when he lost control of the House, those efforts to pursue “large” ideas ceased. But looking forward, there is not much for Obama to do, according to the Washington Post columnist.
“What will he do?” Krauthammer continued. “I think he will go back to who he is. People have said he should be a Clinton and compromise, have a second term. But he is not instinctively a moderate. I think he is a man of the left, and he will try to push his agenda through with what he thinks is a mandate. And I think we are going to be exactly where we were a year ago with the debt ceiling argument next year. And the problem is the country will slide right through a second term because I don’t see give on either side, particularly when the president, with a very weak mandate for a second term.”
Krauthammer was easy with his critique of the losing candidate Mitt Romney, explaining that Romney did as well as he could. But he said the future is not as dim for the GOP as it might seem on the heels of this electoral loss.

I’m tired of FOX correspondence blowing sunshine up my ass. Obama got most the Catholic vote, most the Jewish vote, and 39% of the white vote. (Per articles currently running on Bad Blue). What the hells wrong with people. The only way the electorates going to learn is if they live with what they voted for. Unfortunately the rest of us pay the price right along with them. Since electing Conservatives GOP doesn’t work, Boehner, Cantor & McConnel have been reelected, perhaps whe should just vote Kommiecrat just to purge The Establishment.
Then in clintons mid term elections in ’18 The Kommiecrats would have so soiled the system that real Americans can take office.
But whatever, as long a Weeping John etc hold leadership the Kommies win anyway…

I don’t always agree with Krauthammer but he’s right on the money here. Conservatism has not been damaged and the defeat is behind us. Adapt and press on: we’ve got 4 years to correct our mistakes. I know the SCOTUS issue is troubling a lot of people but we can’t do anything about it and the future is not preordained. Fight the good fight and live by your convictions.

RightWinger, I think they are trying to take any steps they can right now to avoid sequestration. Which needs to be done. It’s there only option. But they can be, perhaps, distracted and misled. How many times have I seen comments here expressing amazement that blacks and Jewish people vote against their interests? Why do they do that? Because the libtards have a better propaganda machine and communicate issues that are important to that demographic – even if they’re untrue. The GOP (and all of it’s subsets) need to move into the 21st century, take a good hard look at the U.S. demographics, and hire a new media specialist ASAP and start campaigning for ’16 today. Today. Not for a while. I was hoping Romney would get in and get the economy kicking again. I own commercial property and a house that I have a lot of equity in. Trying to sell that now in Cali. would be next to impossible. I do have somebody interested in the building. Things turn any darker here I might need to get what I can out of the building a bale. Kraut hammer is wrong if he thinks that Comrade Obama was weakened by the election. He will continue to ignore the House. He will continue to issue Executive Orders and Regulations which will kill energy production and jobs. He will get to fill as many as three seats on the Supreme Court, and his nominees will be Communists who will work to undermine Constitutional rights and help ” transform” America. The Senate will confirm his nominees with barely a whimper from the likes of Lindsey Graham. Comrade Obama will work to push U.N. treaties which further undermine our Constitutional rights, and which will subordinate us to the U.N. The Senate will ratify these treaties over the objections of Republicans. The Dems are already moving to limit opposition in the Senate through rule changes that will make it more difficult for Republicans to stop them. I could go on, but you get my drift. The punditocracy is sugar coating the outcome of the election, but the bottom line is that the Communists have just been given their opportunity to consolidate power, and they will do so. Ask Krauthammer to name one instance in history when Communists have done so and it worked out well. Mandate? Obama don’t need no stupid mandate!
