Kroger to Slash Hourly Workers to Avoid Obamacare Penalties
Operative Faith reveals that Kroger will soon join the ranks of Darden Restaurants and slash the hours of its non-exempt (hourly) workers to avoid millions in Obamacare penalties.
To give you a sense of Kroger’s size and importance, its sales last year were $90 billion and it employs nearly 350,000 people. Most of its jobs are hourly and the vast majority of workers are neither millionaires or billionaires.
Faith is a mid-level manager at Kroger and reports the dire news:
Last week we found out that, beginning in January, any employee who is not full-time at that point, will be limited to 28 hours per week and all new hires will be subject to the same policy.
Currently, part-time employees can work as many hours as needed.
Many Kroger employees, I believe, will be shocked to find out about this new policy.
What this means is that Obamacare will stop tens of thousands of Kroger employees — most of whom depend on and need the money — from working more than 28 hours!

There are lots of Kroger stores where I live and I know a few of it’s employees. They’re working there for the money, not as a hobby!
Funny thing is, Kroger is a union store. Fat lot of good that’s done the workers, huh?

I work in the headquarters of a retail chain.
That very same directive was handed out here. Everybody is to be kept under 30 hours, except for the location manager.

CA is a forced-unionization state and damn near everyone is hourly, and is non-exempt. When I was part of the layoffs for my previous employer, they all came from CA because we were non-exempt. The company made me exempt earlier in that year, but had to change me back to non-exempt due to CA law.
So the libtards here in CA cost me my job because I don’t have a say in whether or not I want to be exempt from overtime pay. I have no issue with a house painter getting overtime. They work outside, in the hot and cold and wind and muggy and wet. They deserve the overtime. I have no issue with a plumber getting overtime. Sometimes they have to work with human feces on the floor or just like the painters, out in the elements. They deserve the overtime. Many trades are similar.
As for me, I was working from home in a nice comfortable home/office out of the elements. Why should I get overtime? Or more appropriately, why shouldn’t I be able to…wait for it…choose whether or not I want to be exempt? I think it is a slap in the face to the hard-working Americans that deserve overtime, when some cubicle or office rat like me gets overtime.
The People’s Socialist Quagmire of California “protecting” me from the evil corporation I work for by forcing me into a classification that my employer can no longer afford, so I lose my job.
