Mother Jones Whines That Not Allowing Scum To Vote Hurts Obama’s Chances
Here’s a MJ comment that sums up the idiocy of the left. -
Permanent disenfranchisement is not fair. If we have decided that the perp has paid his debt to society, why don’t we allow them to have some of the privileges of society back? I think it’s racism, personally – we do our best to make sure minority youth go to jail/prison for offenses that white youth get a slap on the wrist for. (Of course, the white youth can normally afford a lawyer to plead their case, while most minority kids can’t, which is another unfair advantage.)
I’m not saying allow convicted white collar criminals to be bankers, or convicted pedophiles to work in day care, but we have to give these people a second chance or they will always be on the margins of society and not have a vested interest in others. By showing we are willing to accept them back into society with the power of the vote, many will vote for their best interest. This would possibly mean minority voters voting for candidates who will increase safety nets that will keep the next generation from the bad choices the ex-cons made. Sometimes the only difference between a felon and an *alleged* felon is money in the bank or skin tone. If everyone who ever did something criminal had served for their offense, nobody would be allowed to vote.

Voting is a privilege of upstanding citizenship. If you commit a felony, not only can a state bar you from voting, you’re lucky they don’t execute you. And that, Ms. Dingbat, is how democracy works.

I’m glad I live in a state that lets me vote, in spite of something I did more than half my life ago.
I did have to wait 10 years before regaining the responsibility though.
Doing stupid shit when you are young and stupid shouldn’t lock you out for life.
Every state should have a way for individuals to regain the responsibility to vote once all aspects of their sentence have been served, and they have proven themselves up to the responsibility.
On the other hand, I don’t view voting as a “right” that every mouth breathing shithead should have.
In a perfect world, only those actually contributing to society would have a say in how it is run.

The raw number of poor white people FAR exceeds the raw number of poor black people.

Under state law it is also legal for a convicted felon, that has served out all aspects of their sentence, to keep firearms for personal protection at home.
It is a bad idea though, because it is against federal law.
I steer clear of both state and federal laws by sticking to black powder “antique and curio” weapons.

Most felons CAN vote in most states after a period of time as long as their conviction. Say you are convicted of murder and you do your three and a half years (a life term is typically seven years and in state prison you serve about half the time you are sentenced to) then three years after you get out of prison you can vote again, as long as you stayed out of trouble.

Aren’t the 6% and 9% numbers cited in the article the real issue?
You can hardly blame a liberal for using the oversimplification propaganda tactic – after all, they do have liberal brains – but the social and political issues involved with incarceration are a lot more complex than worn out accusations of racism. The entire article is based on a false premise to create another subset of democratic voters.

What would be an appropriate waiting period to restore the vote to a man that raped you?

Ever notice the conviction rate of most police departments? It only about 30%. Why? For each crime a criminal is convicted for, on average, has commited at least 3 or 4 (or more) additional crimes he has not been charged with. So when they say “I’ve paid my debt to society” what about all the other people you stole from or injured ? Have you repaid them ???

Please remember that Mother Jones isn’t really a new magazine. xplodeit, I was referring more to second amendment rights. They are both now looking at misdemeanors. But it’s cost me $15,000.00 thru this process. This has been a real eye opener for me. When DA’s are not sure what really happened, they just arrest everyone. Fairly traumatic for the entire family. I don’t won’t to go into the whole thing but it’s taken over a year to get to this point. If I didn’t have the money to defend them, like a lot of families don’t, they would have gotten rail roaded. Public defenders are useless. I will tell you this. The home owner was a Sheriff, the sons best freind that is being charged with rape with the home owners son’s father is a sheriff. The investigating officer is a relative of one on the other Sheriffs. The sexual assaults took place long after my kids left. My kids were jumped and came out on top. I don’t necessarily trust the justice system all that much anymore. Sorry I brought this up, but some of these convictions are for the convenience of some dumb ass DA that’s trying to keep their conviction ratio up. bedamned justice.

For the past several months, I have been reading this and that concerning unfairly or unlawfully preventing citizens from voting. Virtually all of this gnashing of teeth is from the left.
So, to carry this to its logical conclusion, a significant portion of the left’s voting block consists of people who aren’t motivated enough to get some sort of government identification, even though such identification is required for virtually everything (including, I might add, to gain access to venues where Obama is speaking). Or these are people who are not eligible to vote – i.e. illegal aliens. And now – convicted felons.
If I were a lefty, I wouldn’t be particularly proud that these folks are an important part of my power base. In any event, I’m not sure they should be voting in the first place.

I am of the opinion that while incarcerated a person not be allowed to vote or to exercise many
other actions normally associated with being a free
American….including conjugal visits. However upon serving the time sentenced and being released said person should be allowed to live a free life including the right to vote and own firearms. If said person is of such delinquent and dangerous character that they cannot be trusted to vote, own firearms or otherwise live and work in free society they should not be allowed back in to society….they should be hung.
