Midget Mike gets kicked in the Bloombag; Backs off on NY Marathon
NYC Marathon Won’t Be Held Sunday: Mayor
The marathon will not take place in storm-ravaged New York City this Sunday, Mayor Bloomberg announced late Friday.
Bloomberg had defended his decision to hold the 26.2-mile race as scheduled on Sunday, although many New Yorkers complained it would be insensitive and divert city resources at a time when many are suffering.
Bloomberg earlier in the day said the marathon would “give people something to cheer about in what has been a very dismal week for a lot of people.”
But after growing criticism, the event was put off.
“The marathon has always brought our city together and inspired us with stories of courage and determination,” Bloomberg said in a statement. “We would not want a cloud to hang over the race or its participants, so we have decided to cancel it.”

There were a lot of good reasons to still have the marathon, but I think better not to. I doubt they can reschedule.

What the fuque ever happened to New Yorkers?
I remember a time when the people of this once great and ballsy island would’ve thrown this prick into the east river.
what would schmucky do?

sooo, the 20,000 runners that WERE going to participate NOW have to go back home and show up when you reschedule??? that’s a bigger MIKE-UP than NOT postponing the damn thing before the superstorm hit
DUMBASS! sorry, that’s egotistical DUMBASS

I heard that if the Marathon went off as scheduled, displaced persons were being encouraged to join the race and walk the course. At least that way they’d get water, snacks, and the use of port-a-potties.

@schmucky – why don’t you encourage the runners to put on their boots and help those stranded? There will always be marathons, it’s rare to have thousands stranded without water, food….
Yeeesssss, he is a dumbass.

A simple spreadsheet analysis taking into account the following factors:
-Flights into and out of the airports, required and available.
-Ground transportation into and out of the city, required and available.
-Hotel rooms, required and available.
-Additional utilities load, required and available.
-Police security, required and available.
-Political ramifications of diverting above resources for a foot race when people may still be dying out in Staten Island and Brooklyn.
It’s absurd that anyone would think they could go on with this race. What was Soda Jerk thinking?

You don’t understand. Bloomberg didn’t cancel until it was impossible for participants or spectators to get refunds on their hotel reservations.
This way, the hotel owners and the SEIU still get their money.

The world records would be shattered with the hungry ozombies chasing the tasty runners around lower manhatten.
Bloomberg.
I think he is a fucking dick, not because he’s fucking rich, but becausehe is a pompous socialist dickhead extrordinaire.

@John Cooper – I doubt that the timing was such that people lost their refunds. I don’t think that any hotel would win a breach of contract case in this situation.
Bloomberg just finally read the focus group results, and they said running the NYC marathon would be detrimental to your re-election. So he cancelled it.

In a brilliant prog inspired move Bloomie will divert the hydration stations and Porto potties to lower Manhattan, Staten island, Long Island that have been devastated by global warming. He will also keep the NY National Gard out of NYC with his only NYPD are allowed to carry guns, except for the few thousands of gang bangers.

I don’t give a particular damn about the Marathon. To me its an event for third worlders,Yuppies, fitness freaks, teetotalers, pasta devouring health nuts, vegetarians, liberal, hippi type asstards.
With lots of cheats. Even Paul Ryan bullshitted about his time. Its an event we could do without.
I’m glad the Nanny Mayor was forced to “Stand Down.”

Oh the humanity, the lost revenues to the city, and another blow to the morale of the big apple. People are without homes and businesses are lost possibly forever. C’mon can’t we all “pull together” and move FORWARD past this hurricane thing and just have the race? Same logic as Obama and his last 4 YEARS…. Douche bag.

I thought Doomberg could bus the starving & homeless from Staten Island to man the water stops along the marathon route.
Guess they figured out it’d be hard for them to pass out water wiht their hands handcuffed behind their backs! Would have made for great TV, though!!

In SOME situations I could see going on ahead with a previously scheduled event, though the more I think about and weigh it, I’m veering towards private events, such as weddings. Large public events really are a kick in the teeth to those who can barely find a place to go potty, let alone take in a marathon.
And then heat for the media tent at the expense of those dying around the city and on Staten Island? What a JERK this guy is. That he had to be shamed into cancelling only amplifies that assessment.

No, the hotels just go ahead and charge your credit card if you didn’t cancel soon enough and you play Merry Hell getting it back.
