U.S. Air Force Academy

From the Military Times: An Air Force Academy tradition of throwing cadet first sergeants into the season’s first snowfall ended in a brawl that left 27 cadets in need of medical treatment for everything from concussions, bitemarks, and cuts, according to an internal academy email obtained by the Air Force Times.

“This ritual has devolved to become increasingly violent, with significant numbers of cadets requiring medical care over the past two years,” Dean of Faculty Brigadier Gen. Dana Born wrote in an email sent to Academy department heads.

I’m sure there would’ve been a lot of hair pulling too, if they had any hair.

As often said by the Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard…

    “Air Farce… (snort!) (snicker!)”

Do 20 situps and an 8 minute mile and you’re done with basic training PT requirements. LOL!

Shut Up! Tell me, now, how many of you’s been through any military training? Don’t lie. It’s a shameful story, for sure, but I’d like to see how the Army, Marines and Navy would deploy their weapons, personnel and supplies without the AF or how confident they’d be without air cover when it’s needed. So just STHU and get your damn shoes off the furniture, mister.

    @Abigail ..Your joking right?
I know for a fact the U.S.Navy uses replenishment ships. once a week the carrier I was on (CVN-70) had a visit on our starboard side. food, mail, jet fuel..and we also used a Seahawk for VERTREP, besides the usual CONREP.
And I’m not sure why we’d need the AF for air cover either..we had over 90 aircraft on board.
    2 fighter squadrons
    2 attack squadrons
    1 all-weather attack squadron
    1 early warning squadron
    1 tactical electronic warfare squadron
    1 anti-submarine squadron
    1 helicopter anti-submarine squadron
and a detachment of air reconnaissance and light photographic reconnaissance aircraft.
We flew in our own mail as well.
    I was a CPO on U.S.S Carl Vinson (CVN-70).
Now, I’m not sure about any cargo lifts by the A.F. it’s possible..but?
Seriously..with no tail hook, how are they going to land on our deck??

@Abigail – I was stationed at The Zoo in the Training Wing. Please, please, please don’t say that you think USAFA is anything like the real AF.

Be assured, the people on this site are patriots who are smart enough to know the difference between some sniffling punk cadet and a Load Master on a 141.

    Love ya!

I didn’t say that other services don’t have those capabilities. I genuflect in your general direction. Trashing any branch of our military disgusts me. I thought only anti war progtards did that.

All joking aside, this is troubling. Young men in our culture are wierding out and seriously bad, depraved, definitely not honorable behavior has been showing up all over the place and getting worse. Just an anecdotal; I knew a guy who went into the Marines and had a pretty horrific experience…let’s just say not all is at it seems in the corps.

“… he might be amenable to allowing cadets to keep some version of the tradition if they presented him a proposal for how it could be executed with ‘good order and discipline and proper risk management.’”

Fuck a bunch of “good order and discipline and proper risk management.” Are they training these people to be warriors or insurance salesmen?

Ricky, remember when the CPO initiations were REAL??

@Barry — I wrote my response to you at the half of a high school football game (we lost again, but not a shut out this time), so my response was brief.

    Thanks for your service!

I was with the 62nd MAW out of McChord. I loved the AF and all the great associations made during those years. We just had a second reunion this spring; hard to realize that so many of us now in our 50s and 60s were just kids when we were together. And a lot of us would be on the fat boy roster, too. But no matter which military branch you’re from, you never forget those true blue and affectionate relationships forged as a team with a mission. My favorite TDYs were Operation Reforger. I think we’ve had a conversation about that here at IOTW before.

The only interservice rivalrie that I have experienced were at sports events, and, even then, as the players saw it, the rivalries were between teams, not between branches of the military.

Attempts to portray rivalries here were childish.

The thumbs up for Abby should tell you where most of us stand.

Even in jest, criticisms of our military are in bad taste, inappropriate and way, WAY out of line.
