I’m currently in a library using their Wi-Fi because when a butterfly farts in my town we lose power.

The library has its own generator? That’s dedication!

I thought Barko Bama had spent millions of dollars turning Butterfly Farts into electricity.

Aha! Down here (Palm Beach reCounty) the electrical grid knows train tracks, not city limits.
The RR companies charge the power company BIG TIME to put a wire over its tracks, so there are very few such wires.

…”when a butterfly farts in my town we lose power…”

Lol!!! I’m glad to know you are alive and still kicking libturd hiney!

Every winter we can count on several power outages, sometimes for 3-4 days. We are the last to get power restored here. I really must invest in a generator.

Good advice (from experience): Hold on to your weapons; you will need them. As valuable as water, small bills, a Sterno camp stove and gasoline.

Oh, yeah… WAL-MART was the first store to open up with food supplies after the last four hurricanes down here. Do you have Wal-Mart on L.I.? I know they’re not in NYC.

BFH, Glad you are safe and dedicated. You’re awesome. I hope all the other readers/posters are safe too. What a tragedy. In NE CT, many lost power but this is the first time in a long time we didn’t.

I thought it was the butterfly fart in Brazil that turns into the storm that knocked your power out.

@conservative cowgirl: a generator is my next major purchase. Problem is, I have to get a bunch of electrical work done first, so we’re talking big bucks. But I do NOT want to go another extended period of time with no power. It BITES!

    That’s a common misnomer.
All storm farts of any import begin in the Hudson Valley.

One of the most memorable times for our family was when we were without power for 3 days. Two blocks over they had lights, not us. Weenies and beans (gas stove), board games, fire in the fireplace and big band on the radio. Our daughter still fondly recalls it. Of course we weren’t under water or in danger.

Thanks, Mr. Hat, for your dedication. Hope you’ve got lot’s of hot beverage and a comfortable place to be.

Hang in there BigFurHat. Hope you don’t have long to wait before things are back to normal.

Those solar lawn lights are pretty nice to have in times of no power. If you have enough sun during the day they will give you some light all night. I’ve used them all over my house when the power went out.

Ater Bertha and Fran (just 6 weeks apart) we would lose power several times a day. After several weeks of this, The power company had to shut down the entire system and the local fire departments had to wash the salt off all the transformers, fuses, and substations…It worked. I feel for you BFH..been there…

    Apropos of nothing . . .

If you can capture 10 billion butterflies, and tickle their noses until they sneeze you can actually produce power . . .

Higher And Higher by Graeme Edge (the Moody Blues)

    Blasting, billowing, bursting forth
With the power of ten billion butterfly sneezes
    Man, with his flaming pyre
    Has conquered the wayward breezes

    Climbing to tranquility
    Far above the cloud
    Conceiving the heavens
    Clear of misty shroud

    A guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do.

    God bless ya, BFH!!!
You’re pretty resourceful, so I figured you wouldn’t let a little thing like a massive power outage hold you down for long. And libraries do serve a purpose.
Hope things aren’t too soggy on the home front.

    @Mountain Dog, damn…that’s a great idea! Thanks!

Glad you’re ok Fur. Every other town down here is without power. NYC looks surreal in the pictures. It looks like Europe will be getting amusement park rides and boardwalks for XMAS this year. Take good care everyone.
