Huh?
“The criteria include climate, crime rate, life expectancy and economic conditions such as cost of living, job opportunities and taxes.”
job opportunities is criteria for great places to retire?
That is just wrong…obama’s new normal…retirement means being the “helpful hardware man or bring a wal-mart greeter…

So the best place for retiring when you have a fixed income is the most expensive state in the country.
Sounds like typical AARP propoganda.

That list is B.S. California would be at least number 5. Good climates a great thing unless you can’t afford to eat.

Retire? Yeah, right. I work in the private sector. I’ll be working until the moment I drop dead. Retirement is for unionized government employees.

Alaska! What!!?? This is a great place to retire, as long as you stay away from Juneau.

Oh and by the way, that northern tier of the US is worse than most of Alaska, the areas of which Outsiders are most likely to settle. I doubt many people will retire to Nome or Barrow. Mat-Su, maybe–and Minnesota is way colder.
And we haven’t quite reached 8$ for a box of cereal as in Hawaii, plus, thanks to Jay Hammond, the people own the state’s oil and receive a dividend each year, which helps offset some costs.
I can see why some people would still not choose Alaska, but to say it ranks that close to the worst is a bit extreme.

I lived in Hawai’i and except for the beautiful scenery–it sucked. Not for the high cost of living but the pure hatred the “natives” have for the United States. They do not want to be a state and they blame non-natives for everything. We had a pest exterminator to our house who proceeded to blame it on us (meaning non-Hawai’ians) because we brought the bugs with us. Obama fits right in. I loved Arizona though.

AZ would be truly fine, if not for the infestation of lib-dorks, especially in Tucson. Dhimmicrats completely control the county Board of Supervisors, School Board, and city council which means we’re “blessed” daily with a never ending parade of STUPID!!! These idiots can waste millions like Obama does billions.
Wages suck – haven’t gotten a raise in almost 5 years, but I don’t complain seeing as how I was hired in at the very top of the pay scale. The wife hasn’t had a raise in 3 years. If not for bonuses which I get almost every month because my shop is really busy, rebuilding BIG, expensive parts for mining equipment through the West, Mexico and sometimes Canada, we’d have to pinch more pennies than we do.
Gas, food and utilities keep rising, higher and higher. Wanna know why the economy grew by 2% last quarter? We’re getting hosed, just, to get by.

At state level, Gov. Snyder is doing all he can to reverse the hell that Granholm put us through. Probably won’t see much more marked improvement until Fed. policies are reversed.
I currently live in the last conservative area left in Michigan, but that too is being assulted by stinking liberal/ commies.
As far as our weather, if you don’t enjoy 4 distinct seasons, and can’t handle a little snow, I suggest you stay the f*** out of Michigan.

Yippee. I live in the worst state to retire in! Trust me, it’s not the best state to work in either.

I grew up in GR.
I now live closer to the lakeshore, roughly a half hour out of GR, in the Zeeland area. I would say Holland/ Zeeland area, but Holland is becoming too lib infested to qualify as a safe haven anymore.

I’m not sure if you’ll get this, since this article will be “archived” soon.
Yeah, I don’t go anywhere near Saugatuck if I can help it.
Growing up, I lived in the Godwin district (Go Wolverines!).
If you were closer to Kentwood, I assume you were a rival.
And yes, gotta love those Tigers and the way they can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory every time. Lord I wish they played the way they did in 1984.
