8,803,335: Another New Record for Disability—Up 975 Per Day Under Obama
(CNSNews.com) – The number of American workers collecting federal disability insurance benefits hit yet another record high in October, according to the Social Security Administration.
This month 8,803,335 disabled workers are collecting benefits, up from the previous record of 8,786,049 set in September.
In February 2009, the first full month after President Barack Obama took office, there were 7,469,240 workers collecting federal disability insurance. Thus, so far in Obama’s term, the number of workers collecting disability has increased by 1,334,095. That works out to a net increase of about 29,646 per month (1,334,095 divided by 45 months), or an average increase of about 975 per day (1,334,095 divided by 1,369 days).

I’m sure that a lot of people with disabilities who had jobs just gritted their teeth and kept working. When they lost their jobs due to obama’s economy, they didn’t have a prayer of finding a new one, so went for SSDI as a last resort.
That’s not to say there aren’t those that scam the system, just like welfare.

You’re right Carlos. I have chronic back pain that no one seems to be able to figure out the cause for. I grit my teeth and push on, but I don’t know how many times I have thought how easy it would be to just give up and live off the government teat. I won’t as long as I can find some way to keep moving, my pride won’t let me.
It drives me nuts, what happened to personal pride?

Like Carlos and Houston said, I wonder how many of those new claims are people who are actually disabled and just lost their jobs; usually scammers go for the easier ways to get free cash out of the government.

There are TV commercials for ambulance chasers who “will fight to get your claim approved”. WTF do people think? Where does that claim money come from? From the people who dont sponge for a living.
Same with power chair/scooter ads for Medicaid/Medicare. Especially that asshat who sits there and spews how it didnt cost him a dime. He’s right, WE pay the $5K for every bogus claim. No one looks into who gets a chair, how many ghosts are being fed to the government for a payoff.

yeah, take a gander at the Pigfraud dealy… now, even just THINKING about borrowing money from the govt to buy or reinvest in your current farm, you get YOUR 50K coming, TOO..BILLIONS pissed away . complete fraud
