Kendra St. Clair, 12, was at home alone in Oklahoma, when loud banging began on the door to her family’s home. Soon, the glass shattered and an intruder had entered.

“I was scared and I didn’t know what to do next,” Kendra told ABC News.

Petrified, she called her mom Debra.

“I said Kendra get the gun and go get in my closet now. And call 911.”

The young 6th grader followed her mom’s orders to the tee.

The 911 tapes tell the story as it unfolded.

Kendra: “I’m at my house. I’m in my closet. And I ran away from (inaudible) someone’s trying to get into my house and I do not know who they are.” Dispatcher: “Ok I have a deputy en route, I want you to stay on the phone with me. Ok?” Kendra: “Ok. Please. I think they are in the house.”

Kendra had taken shelter in a closet, clutching her mother’s .40 caliber glock gun while she listened to the intruder make his way around her home.

Kendra: “Please help me. Please.” Dispatcher: “Alright, alright. I understand. Do you still have your mom’s gun there?” Kendra: “Yes I do. I have it in my hand.”

Her fear intensified to sheer terror, when she saw the knob of the closet door beginning to turn.

At that point, that for the first time in her life,

Oklahoma is essentially Texas’s little cousin.

You’d have to be a complete idiot to break into an occupied house in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Indiana, and pretty much every state south of the mason-dixon line.

The only thing I didn’t like about this story is that the fucker is still alive.

If liberals have their way, the honest girl here wouldn’t have the gun and the story would have involved rape and homicide.

Good stuff, but if she was being left at home alone, she should have already been taught how to operate a handgun.

Just last weekend I taught my daughter how to shoot my pistol. I made sure she could load it, cock it and fire without looking at the gun. Now I am confident she could do it in the dark, like in a closet. I also made sure she was comfortable shooting it rapid fire. I doubt this guy would have survived a few rounds…

If this were New York, mom’s pistol license would be revoked and she’d be charged with a felony for failing to safeguard her firearm.
Bloomie would be sending out email blasts on the need to keep handguns out of the hands of children.
    (I kid you not)

    Nice shooting, Kendra.

My daughter just bought her first AK-47. She’s been to Iraq and knows how to handle weapons. She brought the new weapon over yesterday and we tore the hell out of some targets. Loads of fun.
It’s Romanian and the stock is too short for me, but it is perfect for home defense.
She carries a pink pistol in her purse too. I’ve never shot that one.

@MD, In my neighborhood where we are stacked on top of one another, I worry about over penetration with the AK. I think in terms of home defense, a shotgun works best.

The 12-yr old in NC who was home from school because she was sick took one through the brain. There were 5 intruders.

When her gfather found her, she was still in her nightgown.

    So go Kendra, go.

    @Rightwingfeather

You are right about that. My .357 would not be a good choice for that type of housing either.
I need more room to move, so my closest neighbor is 1/2 mile away.

I think Glaser makes some non-penetrating ammo, but if you are trying to stop somebody you need the bullet to penetrate. I use Hornady XTP hollow points in my .357. I wouldn’t worry so much about the guy in the next room if I had to live in the city.

@ Mountain Dog: UTG (and others, I’m sure) makes a nice collapsible aftermarket AK buttstock that fits American cheekbones and frames a lot better than standard the WASR stock. It takes just minutes to put it on – two screws, one inside the receiver – and it’ll cost about $60.00 or a few less. It made mine a lot easier to use.
