CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. has spoken out publicly for the first time about his treatment for bipolar disorder and other health issues.

The Illinois Democrat released a robocall Saturday to his Chicago-area constituents in which he seeks to explain his four-month absence. He says he’s grappling with a difficult series of events and that he is human and doing his best.

Jackson thanks his supporters and says he is “starting to heal,” but that his doctors tell him the road to recovery will be long.

The 47-year-old congressman quietly went on leave in early June and his staff didn’t initially disclose the nature of his illness. It was later revealed he had been hospitalized for treatment of bipolar disorder and gastrointestinal problems.

Jackson is seeking re-election to a ninth term.

He’s only 47 and seeking a 9th term? Gimme a break. The district which he represents must be full of libtards.

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Fool me 8 times and I must be a freaking moron with a need to be mistreated.

His district deserves him as the HR member.

“….but that his doctors tell him the road to recovery will be long…..”

That’s funny, that’s the same line of bullshit Obumphuk has been feeding the American public for the last four years.

I am sure his bi-polar disorder can be traced back to the 8 yrs he served in the house while Bush was prez. So once again it is Bush’s fault…..NOT
JJ jr grow a pair and resign or at least do not run for re-election again.

There really needs to be a rule about “incapacitated” members of Congress.
His absence of 4 plus months; Gabby Gifford for a year or more; Ted Kennedy out of it for months (maybe years); and Byrd, Thurmond and others who got so old that they could not function in the real world let alone as a member of Congress.
Once they are unable to represent their constituents, they should resign and let the people of their districts and states have real representation and votes.
Once they are incapacitated, they still “vote” on things and their offices still function — but this is all done by unelected people that work in their offices. Most of these are lifetime Bureaucrats that work in these offices all of their lives only changing offices as elections change members of Congress.

Joe, you wouldn’t believe the demographics of Triple J’s district, especially since it was redrawn in 2010. It’s always been filled with Obamaphones but now the district is about 1/2 suburban with some rural pockets. Basically it’s an economic pump from the ‘burbs to the city and a dump from the city to the ‘burbs.
