A, O, Is Not the Way To Go Ohio
Millennials less enthusiastic about Obama this election
Neal C. Lauron | Dispatch Ohio State student Drew Stroemple of North Canton backs Mitt Romney over Barack Obama, who leads among young voters.
The cheering midst of a rally featuring President Barack Obama and a largely college-age crowd of 15,000 on the Oval at Ohio State University would not seem a likely place to encounter those not in the president’s corner.
Yet, the first five students approached at random by a Dispatch reporter on Oct. 9 turned out to support Republican Mitt Romney and his aspirations of replacing Obama in the White House.
The must-vote adoration and enthusiasm for Obama isn’t what it once was among 18- to 29-year-old Millennials in central Ohio, a must-win area in a must-win state for presidential hopefuls.
This is not 2008, when two-thirds of the youth vote broke big for Democrat Obama and his message of change amid the accompanying offer of making history by electing the first black president.
This is 2012, with Obama running on a recession-riddled record. Job prospects are iffy for even educated young Ohioans. Some fear their generation is in danger of failing to match or better their parents’ now-dinged lifestyles.

As you may or may not know I am originally from Ohio. The majority of my family are voting for Romney except for 2 elderly hard core Union folks who think the ee-vil Repubs will take away their Social Security and Medicare and hate Bush-so there is no reasoning with them. My close friends are for Romney. I have been quietly working my Facebook “friends” in Ohio to vote for Romney because my lonely vote out here on the left coast will have little impact in the election. However, if you cast a vote for Romney and he wins Ohio…boy, that would be all kinds of awesome.
If it means anything, I have seen more Romney/Ryan yard signs and car stickers than Obama. This is in western WA. A big contrast to 2008 where you couldn’t throw a no foam soy latte with 2 Equals and not hit something with an O logo on it.

I live in Medina County, Ohio – and the Romney/Ryan signs are up here by six to one Obama/Biden EASY. Democratic Summit County is up a bit with their Obama/Biden signs. What’s interesting is those who are obviously voting the Democrat ticket rarely have an Obama/Biden sign in their yard. Conversly, those with Republican signs almost ALWAYS have Romney/Ryan included. I PRAY my home state will do the right thing for this country!!!!!!

Here in North eastern Ohio, there’s only a smattering of Barky signs and few Romney signs. But from ppl I have talked to Barky has no chance………;)

I grew up in Mentor, OH (north east part of state). Brother sent me a pic of the neighborhood (leaves changing). I could see 5 Romney signs and zero O sings. I have been sending encouragement for many weeks to all I know up there.

Purely anecdotal, we drove across CT today (it only takes 2 hrs
) and our observations: just as many RR signs, a Prius with an RR bumpersticker, and an 0 sign with the 0 slashed out. That made us giggle.
Oh yeah, met an old friend and we loudly dissed the zer0 in front of others, not a peep in his defense.

I was just over in Western WA a month ago, (I live east of the mountains, now) and the only Obama stickers I saw the entire 4 days were 3 anti-Obama stickers, 2 of them on ONE car we pulled up next to at a Costco gas station in Federal Way, which is not quite as liberal as Seattle, but that’s not saying much. My husband gave kudos to the lady driving it, and conveyed my initial “Wow, she’s brave!” She said that a previous car, similarly adorned, had had tires slashed, been keyed etc. But this one was unscathed, and her husband had put them on quite some time ago. This never would have been allowed to happen 4 years ago. BTW, the stickers were a Calvin peeing on the O symbol, and a block-lettered “OBAMA SUCKS!”.

We live in rural western Ohio, a solidly conservative area of the state. I voted for Romney/Ryan on Oct. 2, the first day of early voting; even so, I’ve watched all 3 debates so far–all the conservatives I know are engaged and excited at the prospect of a butt-whippin’ for the Democrat party.

It’s great to see the younger generation waking up…but it’s not just them. In 2008, they saw Obama as someone more like them…hip and refreshing from the everyday run-of-the-mill politician. He promised that everything was gonna be hunky-dorry. Post election…hope and change didn’t happen anywhere near what they expected (as he told them.) They, and scores of others not so young began finding their own answers. It’s been a huge eye opener because people started to educate themselves & stop relying on the lying media and corrupt congress!

illustr8r. I know how you feel about Western WA. We are on Queen Anne. Except for the diehards there are hardly any O signs, even our neighbor took down her shrine to the one (she and he will still vote for him). I think that people have had enough and are ready to be so over him [ using my young kids words]. Just like the Kardashians, the Obama’s wear on you.
When you are a brand with no lasting value people will discard you faster then a cheap suit and a Obama flag.
