iOTW Survey – Dating and Coupons
More than a quarter of people say they’ve used a coupon to pay for a first date.

You have a coupon? That is so sexy …
|
A survey conducted by Harris Interactive for CouponCabin.com found that 26 percent of people have brought a coupon to a first date.
Nearly three-quarters said that using a coupon wouldn’t prompt them to walk out or deter them from seeing the person again. Only 1 percent of people said they’d walk out on a date who proffered a coupon, while 3 percent would vocalize their displeasure and another 12 percent would keep quiet, but turn that first date into a last date.

Question for the ladies -
If you were dating and a man used a coupon on your first date, what would be your reaction?

Answer: it would be kind uncool. Coupons are more of a fifth date thing

I know this is for the ladies.
However-
A first date is a first impression. Using a coupon tells the lady that the guy values a five dollar discount over her.

So how is going Dutch on the first date, then using a “buy one get one” coupon to “pay” for your half viewed?

What do I think? Fiscally responsible, it’s the new “sexy”.
But what do I know, I’ve been married for 20 years.

Cripes…if he’s that cheap on a first date, what’s he going to do when he’s NOT trying to impress her… smuggle in a couple of peanut butter sandwiches?
I don’t believe such a low percentage of women said that this would be a deal-breaker, unless they’re really desperate.

Let’s be clear here… we’re taking about a coupon discount for folks who have to pay for the services of a woman?

Speaking as a man I never have, nor ever would, do such a thing.
It’s called self-reliance and confidence. If I ask a woman out to dinner I want her to know that I’m entirely capable of paying for it and that I earn the money to do so.

From a male point of view, you never use a coupon on the first date. Or the second date. On the third or fourth date, take her to lunch at a place that has, say, a discounted sandwich for that day. YOU get the discounted sandwich; she gets whatever she wants. After things have settled in, you can use gift cards and coupons all you like.

I probably wouldn’t be impressed with a man who makes a point of paying the tab with a coupon on the first date. I’d make a special effort to see if he tips the wait staff according to the discounted cost, too. On the other hand, I’d appreciate and be grateful for his honesty rather than be lead to believe he was just putting on the dog by paying the regular price now with the intent of fooling me about his real tastes and values later.

Coupons are good things. Heck, we’re all paying for them in the inflated prices of everything else on the menu, so why not use them?
And I liked what @bitterclinger said. If a guy said, “Hey, I have a coupon for dinner! Get absolutely ANYthing you want!” that would be great–then I wouldn’t feel guilty about ordering appetizers, caesar salad, filet mignon or chateaubriand, champagne, and cherries jubilee.
No coupon? I’d look for the least expensive thing on the menu, plus a glass of water.

It was not our first date, we had been dating for quite a while.
We went on a double date with another couple. We all were professionals, two engineers , a nurse and a vet, The other couple insisted on going to the matinee then eating someplace they had a coupon for. It has been years and still bugs me that our choices for a fun time were dictated by someone who needed a crow bar to get his billfold open.

If I am going out to dinner with someone, it may be our first date, but it is likely I have known him for awhile. If I know he is stretching his budget to take me someplace nice, I wouldn’t be offended.
I was one of those girls whose mom taught her to order the least expensive dinner on the menu.

No. Just NO.
If a guy is broke, but wants to make a great impression – take some coupons to the market, buy the stuff to make a picnic, then take her on a picnic.
My husband LOVES it when I make a picnic for our Valentines dinner and set it up in front of a nice fire that I’ve built in the living room fireplace. ( He really loves that I lugged in all the wood so that he didn’t have to)
Maybe if you are 16 years old, and have to take your date to a fast food place it would be OK, just don’t let her see you using coupons.
Otherwise, just NO.

Why does everybody take a first date to a restaurant anyway? Is it all about food?
The beach was always my favorite place. Never needed coupons for beer and barbeque. And the view was fantastic.

If it’s a pricey restaurant and the guy makes a joke about a coupon before we go in, fine. I’d probably even help him to get a free dessert by telling the wait staff, “It’s his birthday!”.
However… If it’s McDonalds with a coupon, no.

Before Obama (Piss be Up On Him), I would have agreed with the folks saying it was tacky, blah blah blah, whatever. But now that we “arrogant” Americans are waking up to the reality that our entire world really could collapse into chaos, I’d have to say that I would not be interested in a relationship with a woman who was offended by the idea of being CONSERVATIVE with our resources! It’s that whole “ewww, not me” attitude that blinded our asses so long that Ocommie was able to nearly wipe out 236 yrs of economic freedom and prosperity before most of the country even comprehended that it could happen!!!
Plus it wasn’t really a coupon, but on me and Mrs Racist’s first date, I surely didn’t have a problem taking advantage of my “frequent-liar” discount at the local motel!!! I kid, I kid…

wouldn’t have a problem with that.
more important is
1. who did they vote for at last election.
2. do they support gun rights.
3. do they support abortion.
4. do they support capital punishment.
