Our family hasn’t had the money to take a vacation in 5 years, not even a long weekend somewhere close. We used to bug out all the time and not worry about the cost because of full employment — even turning work down. Our politicians talk about our children’s future, but no one ever talks about those of us who got hit by all this shit in our early 50′s, a time when you’re hitting your stride in business and looking forward to socking away real bank for retirement. Now our businesses have hit the skids and we’re paying for college educations out of our 401K’s, our paid for homes are worth 30-40% less than we were counting on and the cost to turn the lights on has increased in real dollars 20-30%. If obamacare kicks in we’re out another 3-5K/year and if we’ve got the energy to reinvent ourselves and start a new business we’ll have to brace ourselves for a veritable mountain of red tape and start-up costs, followed by another 7-15 years of 18 hour days just at a time when we were supposed to be on a beach somewhere drinking fruity rum drinks with little umbrellas in them. Shishkabob!! It’s just not good enough for some lameass pol to fake a sincere look into the camera and say “I feel your pain.” They have no idea just how much they stole from us.
I’m a natural optimist, so as a canary in the coal mine, if I’m feeling low you know things are pretty shitty right now. What this president and his family have taken while in the WH is criminal and he and his wife and all their friends should be arrested and tried for their abuses.

AbigailAdams: Don’t feel like the lone ranger. My 401k was thrown back into the fire. There’s been a couple times in the last three years where we were so broke we couldn’t pay attention. But, the employees always get paid. We’ve been in business going on 30 years and it sounds like we are about the same age. What’s frustrating on the political front is our liberal buddies don’t seem to understand the best thing they can do for small biz is just get the hell out of are way and quit doing stupid shit that cost’s us money. Quit regulating, quit trying to help, because the feds screw it up every time.
We are busier right now then we have been for a long time. Actually picked up a couple of employees. But my backlog end January 1, and none of my customers are forecasting past that. Especially my military customer. They chop that budget, and raise the taxes, we are all dead in the water. Hopefully Romney gets in, and during the swearing in ceremonies he has his pen out righting executive orders recending everything the idiot ever passed or put in place.

I left a comment on an earlier thread today asking “Who is John Galt” because, honestly, I am feeling like Atlas shrugging in the wake of last night’s pathetic display of Leftist BS. I guess I’m getting tired of fighting the good fight in the face of all the corruption. This video of his wife flouting her celebrity lifestyle on the backs of good, decent, hard-working people is the straw that broke my spirit. You think to yourself, “I’ve played by all the rules and did what was right and decent. I’ve sacrificed my time and energy to serve in uniform because I love my country. I’ve taken the heat from my kids who don’t always understand why our values are harder to attain than the ones they see lived out at school or in their friends’ home. I’ve provided for others, strangers, without the coercion of gov’t and for what? So I could see the most selfish, self-centered, America- and American-hating group of people spend MY money on expensive, lavish vacations? I cried today for only the second time since he was elected and we had a serious discussion about how we’re going to truly get off the grid if he steals the election. Can’t live under his gov’t.

AbigailAdams: I don’t think about what happens if he wins again. What keeps me going is the realization that we have been forced into a brutal game of Last Man Standing. In other words, things correct themselves, those who are left are in a real good position. When we thought things were soft we used to get 2 or 3 auction notices a month mailed to us. For the last 2 years we average 2 a day. This has been 10 times worse than when we were a start up. If you guys have lasted this long just keep hanging in there and stay aggressive. What choice do we have? I sure would like a vacation though, damn.

I’ve heard Mrs. Bad cry herself to sleep to many times in the last couple a years. She pays the bills, I just make the parts.
