Democrats and Slavery
What does the left say when they are confronted with the fact that they were the party of slavery? They say the Republican party and the Democrat party magically switched, like when Bewitched switched Darrens.
They can’t imagine that the party of enlightenment could ever be the party that put blacks in shackles.
Well, this graphic explains how slavery is in keeping with their mindset, and there was no switch of parties. The switch was who they put into shackles -

It goes all the way back to the Washington and Jefferson era. Ironically, democrats were called republicans and the republicans were called the Whigs (Whig Party); George Washington would today be a republican and Thomas Jefferson a democrat. Something like that.

P.S. – Vallandingham wasn’t on the ballot in 1860, but he was a DemonRat that helped form the ‘Copperheads’ As the Governor of Ohio during the Civil War he pissed off Lincoln so much that Lincoln had him arrested and exiled to the South.

@Edith – Hate to disagree with you, but the DemonRat party split because the party wouldn’t support the South’s position that new states should decide for themselves whether or not they wanted slavery.
