Germany’s Renewable Energy Unicorn Hunt Stumbles, Again

On Monday, Germany announced that it is about to be hit by a huge hike in electricity prices. Under the new rates, German consumers can expect to pay nearly $26 billion in surcharges on their electric bills next year in order to promote renewable energy. The program wasn’t supposed to increase costs for the average consumer, but now green energy surcharges have gone up by fifty percent.
Yet even after pocketing huge sums from consumers, Germany is still struggling to develop a renewable energy sector that can stand on its own two feet.

@Tim — I wouldn’t be so quick to give Germany that distinction. The good ‘ol U.S. of A. may be the title holder on that one. How much more proof do people need to see that centralized gov’t control of things that they don’t know anything about is guaranteed to fail. I heard somewhere this week that algore doesn’t hold any stock in alternative energy or green industry.

I keep waiting for the greens to wake up and realize that wind and solar can never stand on their own, or ever make up more than a handfull of percent of the capacity of a reliable electric grid.
If it ever happens, I fear that in their lunacy, they will completely jump the shark and start throwing the billions down the “zero point”, or other “free energy” rabbit hole…

Ahh, but it was never about renewable energy, saving Gaia or money. It is all about power over and control of the masses. The food supply is next.

@AA – I was thinking of the whole German paradigm. The USA may hold that distinction, but Germany’s trying like Hell to take the title by paying the bills for the entire EU and being insulted for it. Taking in swarms of rat people and trying to civilize them. Giving their daughters to the rat people, hoping the rat people will like them in return.
Too much guilt from the late unpleasantness.
Maybe I should have written:

Yeah, it’s higher energy costs, not for bailing out Spain and Greece.
No. really…

The dumbasses shut down all their nuclear power plants after Fukushima. Now they have to buy a good portion of their electricity from France (made by nuclear power).
Paybacks are hell.

Population in Germany is about 82 Million people.
So 26 Billion Dollars divided up is $317 per person for one year (next year). So every man woman and child will have to pay more than $25 per month in extra surcharges — on top of what they already pay. Of course, I am sure they do the charges “per account” and not the number of people there, so a single person, living alone will pay the same surcharge as a family of four does.
