Katie Couric Says She Was Bulimic in College
That’s weird, because I throw up every time I see Katie Couric.
Katie Couric said on her U.S. talk show Monday she was bulimic in college and for “two years after that.”
Couric revealed her past eating disorder during a discussion on “Katie” with Dr. Cynthia Bulik, an expert on the subject, UsMagazine.com said.
“Dr. Bulik, I imagine that these things are very familiar to you. I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that,” Couric said.
“I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that’s wrong, you’re full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself, whether it’s one cookie or a stick of gum that isn’t sugarless, that I would sometimes beat myself up for that,” she said. “How do you have a healthy relationship with food, and say, ‘You know what, I can have one cookie and it’s OK?’”

Being a few years older than Katie, I suffered from anorexia during my late teens, early 20s. However, the condition had not yet been “discovered” when I was admitted to the hospital with a temperature above 104 and a white blood count telling my parents I should be dead.
For the first time in my life, I can relate to Katie and curse society for the projected image of an “attractive female”.
This is serious stuff that has been going on for over 40 years and has killed many young women.
I am grateful that I had a supportive family and cutting edge doctors.
