Yeah it was Pamela Geller who was behind it, with me. I did it too. I made the stupid poorly done movie with her. Come and get me – you pinko nazi commie bastards.

She made me stop when I wanted a scene of muslims slitting the throats of some flight attendants on a plane. She made me stop the scene of muslims humping goats. And she made me cut the scene of muslims urinating on the picture of Obama. All this and more on the cutting room floor.

That is the real shame behind this redonkulous movie.

No. When I opened iotw this morning I got the warning from Firefox. When that has happened in the past my first click on iotw opened up the pop-up. This time I just closed the browser without clicking anything. When I came back on there was no pop-up. I have heard that there is some shitty new worm that is infecting computers, and I’ll bet I got it. Some time back I had an e-mail that was supposedly from my niece. When I opened it I got the browser totally hijacked. I’ll probably have to take the damn computer back to Geek Squad. This would be the second time some virus has whisked right past Norton.
dammit all anyway.

malwarebytes anti-malware
Run their scanners. Update them and scan weekly.

If you are using internet explorer – replace it with mozilla firefox (free). It acts just like internet explorer.
Also download AVG internet protection (free).

I did all of the above and I have had no problems for over a year.

@Jethro: Thanks. I’m going to download the spybot later this morning. Whatever is wrong, it seems to affect only iotw. Now when I click on, all the links are at the bottom of the page, and updates to posts don’t show up until I click on the posts. Hope iotw isn’t under attack…

The blank right banner at iOTW and not being able to see everything until you click a post seems to happen around here a lot on weekends. It’s not related to your computer issues.

1] Click FF button, Options, Options, Content Tab, make sure ‘Block pop-up windows’ is ticked. Check the exception box to the right and make sure nothing is listed (like http://iowntheworld.com/blog). Long shot but worth checking.

2] If you’re running Win 7 you should be able to scan with Windows Defender (anti-malware) If you don’t have Defender you can download it (even if you’re on XP) for free from M$.

3] Microsoft Security Essentials (Anti-virus) is another free download and should protect all but the most flagrantly foolish computer users and kids who don’t know better.

4] Emsisoft Anti-Malware provides a free full featured 30 day trial. What I like about this software is it does everything – viruses, spyware, worms, rootkits, etc. If you’re not an M$ fan or if M$ products don’t fix your system, try scanning with Emsisoft. (I just downloaded it and scanned my system – you can start with a Quick Scan or a Smart Scan, the Deep Scan takes a loooong time) Be sure to turn off other anti-malware programs before scanning with any product. http://majorgeeks.com/download172.html

5] There are any number of good, free anti-malware programs out there, and many are superior to products that you have to purchase. Some protect against viruses, some against spyware, and some are comprehensive packages that do everything. 6] Norton Corporate AV is great. Norton AV for Home Users, not so much. Plus, it costs money.

Good luck. If you were anywhere close to Pittsburgh I’d offer you a house call. I’d like to emphasize how much I like the Emsisoft trial package – they update several times per day and it’s a great tool for fixing misbehaving systems like yours, and you can uninstall it when you’re done. The packages Jethro mentioned are good too, just make sure to turn other protection off when you install and scan with these new products.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help with this. I downloaded, and ran spy-bot: 51 level 5 threats, and 4 level 1 threats on the first scan. And this stuff just slid through Norton like slime through a pipe.
Pop-up issue seems fixed.
