Republicans criticize four-gallon EPA gas purchase mandate

With prices at the pump worrying Americans, Republicans have railed against the Environmental Protection Agency’s new gas mandate that requires consumers to buy at least four gallons when purchasing from stations with hoses containing 10 percent and 15 percent ethanol-blended fuel.
On Monday, Republicans on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency Chief Administrator Lisa Jackson criticizing the agency’s approval of the sale of gasoline containing 15 volume percent ethanol.
Specifically, the EPA will require that consumers purchase a minimum of four gallons when buying from a gas station that sells gasoline containing 10 percent ethanol and 15 percent ethanol — also known as “E15″ — out of the same gas pump.
Gas stations may also have a dedicated hose for selling E15.
“The EPA has no business telling Americans how much fuel they must purchase,” the letter from Republican committee members Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin and Chip Cravaack of Minnesota.

…….and when they passed obummercare it was said that the gubbermint cant FORCE you to buy anything
……and then the supreme court of injustice held that the gubbermint can FORCE you to pay a “tax” and redifine obumblescare accordingly
……and NOW you have a minimum amount you MUST buy
or…..what…..another “tax”?
I guess the people who make gas cans that hold less than four gallons are gonna be shit outta luck as well as a job, huh?
Having 4+ gallons of gas sitting around your home to fill your one quart lawn-mower gas tank is not overly dangerous now is it?
Spilling more on the ground, yourself, and your lawnmower, while trying to muscle a 4 gallon container over a funnel (if you have one) is going to be comical at least and deadly at worst, but Otramma doesnt care because he haz his orders and he follows them to the letter…..just like the good little dancing boy he was raised to become.

The Republican party had better do more than just “criticize” the EPA–it’s time to shut it down altogether.

the EPA said that “in the case of E15 and E10 being dispensed from the same hose” the agency would require people to purchase “at least four gallons of fuel” in order to prevent vehicles with smaller fuel tanks from being exposed to fuel blends greater than 10 volume percent ethanol.
I must be incredibly stupid because that statement makes no sense. Can anyone explain to me how someone could end up with >10% ethanol?

One of Romneys’ first agendas better be to eliminate the EPA. And have their names, pics, addresses published so we can have fun drawing & quartering them. Over bonfires. Heads on a stick.

I have had to scrape up enough coins to buy 1 gallon of gas when medical bills rob me of everything, including the ability to generate MORE medical bills by NOT being able to drive there!
Just another perverted way of passing yet another tax on top of all the other fuel taxes we already pay on pre-taxed fuel.

Boehner is too power-hungry and too power-happy. He likes the aspect of cutting deals more than serving constituents. He is a worthless leader. Same with McConnell.

Why are we sticking MORE ethanol in fuel when corn production is way down this year and food prices are going up?
How many vehicles out there will tolerate 15% ethanol versus 10%?

E-15 will burn up the motors in cars that are not built to handle the high heat that the extra alcohol added to the blend will generate. The EPA has to be shut down and then restarted with a clear mission that they can not deviate from.

I can see them mandating that those of us with small gas cans for our power tools only have to dispense 2.5 gallons, but still have to pay for 4, it just seems like the type of government mandated solution they’d legislate.

The whole ethanol debacle is BullShit. It takes more units of energy to produce it than it yields, it ruins older engines, and while it may (may!) be better for the air, it contributes to ground water pollution. It’s sole purpose is to make agriculture another welfare recepient beholden to the federal government.

I have a small gas can for my lawn mower too. So if they don’t want me making molotav cocktails with the excess gas they better lay off the drugs.
Ethanol sucks anyway. I don’t drive a corn burner.
The EPA is Anti-American. Scrap it!

Wonder what the “fine” will be when the DOT (dept of transportation) cops catch you buying only 3.8 gallons in your federally authorized spill proof 3.8 gallon yellow (diesle containers r yellow, Gas containers r red). i can see it now,
Hands on the hood old man, your not putting enough gasohol in this non-approved yellow container,,,,dont get mad at me old man, just doin my job, its a federal law, going to write you two tickets, one for un-authorized container and one for not buying legal minimum, and the fine will be $238 dollars plus court costs. Going yo take your container of fuel as evidence, have a nice day.

“E-15 will burn up the motors in cars that are not built to handle the high heat that the extra alcohol added to the blend will generate”
yeah, but if all the cars turn to shit then everyone can just ride the hi-speed rail that will be constructed with billions of taxpayers in order to enrich the UNION constructors so they can live like millionaires and billionaires,TOO they gotta right, ya know… well, at least a union to say they got a right.
