Russian ships displayed at DNC tribute to vets

On the last night of the Democratic National Convention, a retired Navy four-star took the stage to pay tribute to veterans. Behind him, on a giant screen, the image of four hulking warships reinforced his patriotic message.

But there was a big mistake in the stirring backdrop: those are Russian warships.

While retired Adm. John Nathman, a former commander of Fleet Forces Command, honored vets as America’s best, the ships from the Russian Federation Navy were arrayed like sentinels on the big screen above.

These were the very Soviet-era combatants that Nathman and Cold Warriors like him had once squared off against.

“The ships are definitely Russian,” said noted naval author Norman Polmar after reviewing hi-resolution photos from the event. “There’s no question of that in my mind.”

DNC apologizes for use of Russian ships

Naval experts concluded the background was a photo composite of Russian ships that were overflown by what appear to be U.S. trainer jets. It remains unclear how or why the Democratic Party used what’s believed to be images of the Russian Black Sea Fleet at their convention.

A spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee was not able to immediately comment Tuesday, saying he had to track down personnel to find out what had happened.

The veteran who spotted the error and notified Navy Times said he was immediately taken aback.

“…..Due to vendor error, incorrect images appeared briefly on screen behind fifty-one veterans during the convention and the DNCC apologizes for this mistake,” the statement said….”

So typical – “it’s not our fault and we apologize for someone else’s error”. In otherwords, it was Bush’s fault.

And THAT, my friends, is today’s democratic party.

C’mon, what political party has virtually ALL of the old “college Commies”, Marxists, socialists, far-left crackpots except the ones who have explicitly renounced those philosophies such as David Horowitz. 0bama has never renounced the radical leftists that he deliberately hung out with in college, or his parents for that matter.

Republicans have RINOs and spineless figureheads but we don’t have any mad bombers.

The phrasing of this is pure politically correct crap plus a desire to stay employed for the folks working in or for DoD.

This sure as Hell ain’t the real American Navy. I thought that I served in the US Navy 40 yrs. ago, musta been a bad drug induced dream. Can’t these BASTARDS at the DNC get anything right or do all Navies look the same to them. I bet they never saw how big pieces of shit the Russian MIG’S were compared to our F-14′s etc.

One, two or all of the following:

    1) Another indication of how completely clueless the obama people and the rest of the (d)s are about the military;

    2) A deliberate insult to the US military; and,

    3) A possible indication of what that “… more flexibility after the election” comment meant.

Given today’s apologies to the musloids by the occupant’s administration, I’m guessing all three.

One former Air Force pilot told Navy Times in an email that the wing configuration and distinctive formation made it likely that these planes were the Turkish Stars, an aerial demonstration team of the Turkish Air Force. An image he sent appeared to show planes in a very similar formation, however there are slight differences, such as eight planes versus seven in the DNCC image, which could have been edited out.
