KRAUTHAMMER BLASTS BILL CLINTON’S DNC SPEECH
‘SPRAWLING, UNDISCIPLINED AND TRULY SELF-INDULGENT’
Reacting to former president Bill Clinton’s nomination speech at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday, Fox News contributor and syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer said the address was “sprawling, undisciplined and truly self-indulgent” and would not help President Obama’s re-election chances.
“I think it was a giant swing and a miss,” Krauthammer said of the speech. “I don’t think it will move the needle whatsoever.
“It was engaging it was humorous, in some cases it was generous — I think there were more mentions of the Bushs than I heard in three days in Tampa,” he added. “It was also vintage Clinton in that it was sprawling, undisciplined and truly self-indulgent.”
Krauthammer went on to call Clinton’s DNC address “one of the strangest nomination speeches” even given.

Just as the other speech-makers confined the meat of their remarks to the convention goers and delegates so, too, was clinton’s speech all about trying to hold the convention together. He was in the embarrassing position of having to school the delegates of the DNC because, looking at all the easy targets blathering or staring mutely at easy questions from conservative media, he had to give them their talking points. Does anyone really think that the average delegate at the DNC knows a damn thing about the workings of the (non-existent) federal budget, federal spending, fannie and freddie, the fed, etc.? clinton’s job was made easy in this crowd because they know nothing, tabula rasa. No one to know anything different than the crap sandwich he portioned from the podium last night.

@Abigail –
“….Does anyone really think that the average delegate at the DNC knows a damn thing about the workings of the (non-existent) federal budget, federal spending, fannie and freddie, the fed, etc.?….”
And those delegates are the ones among democrap voters who are tuned in enough to participate in the nominating process.
Just imagine the millions of other, even more clueless, democrap voters out there – putty in the hands the democrap operatives.

Clinton did exactly what he set out to do: fire up the convention and his party on the president’s behalf. Of course, Krauthammer and other conservs aren’t impressed – the speech wasn’t intended for them. But for the Dems in the hall and at home, Clinton’s 48 minutes was both a delight and the shot of adrenalin the movement to re-elect needed. Another thing Krauthammer wouldn’t admit but might understand is that Clinton was talking directly to the independents who will decide this election. Parse it all you want, the news last night wasn’t good for Romney-Ryan.

@Stirrin — Yes, it would cause one to despair. But maybe what we are seeing at the D convention, because obama is the incumbent, are all the “seconds”, the politial chaff, who were only too keen to take their vacation time to go to N.C. and not the party regulars who are back in their districts along with all the pols who are distancing themselves from obama and the party platform. It would be interesting to hear the various stories of some of those oddball hat-wearers and how it was that they came to be elected as delegates by their state conventions. Also, keep in mind that because obama is the incumbent and clear nominee, these delegates don’t have to represent anyone. His “nomination” is a fait accompli. They didn’t even have to have a convention.

Serious swing and independent voters will not be so easily taken in by clinton’s hoo-haw last night. His speech was vintage clinton — filled with enough policy detail to make him sound wise. Any swing or indie who lived during the clinton years (particularly if they voted for him) will have recognized it for what it was. He’s the master of “feelings” politics; providing the same feel-good sensation as nitrous oxide during a root canal.

Krauthammer also mentioned that Zippy had to stand backstage while Bubba went on and on and on. I loved that image.
Also, I know some here don’t like Kevin DuJan of Hillbuzz, but he did two very good posts about the first two nights of the DNC. I enjoyed reading them.

I like that part at the end when he bowed to Obama, and psyched Barry into bowing back just a little. You need to keep your eye on the Bill Clinton. He’s a real card.
And there’s something almost poetic about a President who wants to diminish American eminence in the world for no good reason other than he thinks we need to be brought down a notch or two, a President who seeks to intentionally hobble our capitalistic system even though it is quite serviceable, because he doesn’t trust it, is moving his party’s convention into smaller quarters and sacrificing entertainment and tradition because he has no faith in the people of his party or the blue sies above which are plain to see?

All the bloviating in the world can’t hide the facts, and the facts are grim indeed.
Clinton’s wind has spiraled up now through the convention hall and out into space, and after the confetti is swept up tonight, Obama’s wind will be chasing Clinton’s into the stratosphere.
But the facts remain. 23 Million out on the dole.
$16T in debt and no end in sight with the current Preezy.
$4 gas and no plan there either. Busted windmill companies and defunct solar outfits don’t help ya with an internal combustion engine this year, or next year, or maybe ever. Facts.
$5,000 less income per household. Combine that with outrageous fuel, food, energy, and insurance costs, and it spells middle class devastation. BTW? Facts.
And just as Israel/Iran is turning into a real clusterfuck of a hot war, the Dems are on record as being anti-God and pro-Hamas.
That sure was some speech from Clinton last night…too bad that hot wind is gone now and only the facts remain, huh Donks?

SLick Willie was just doing was he does best:
Showboating for Hillary 2016, and of course, he likes to pretend he’s still President.
He refuses to acceptt the fact that he’s a washed-up red-nosed has-been who took credit for a thriving economy that Newt and the Republican Congress accomplished. All Bill did was sign the papers and shake hands for the photographers before retiring to his rape-room.

He who laughs has not yet heard the bad news…Bertolt Brecht.
Nate Silver’s 538 has the race at 311.2 electoral votes and 51.2% of the popular vote for Obama versus 226.8 and 47.6% for Romney. 538 also places the odds at 76.3% Obama vs. 23.7% Romney. I don’t attach any significance to such forecasts beyond the fact that Silver called all but one state in the 2008 presidential election and every Senate race.

Nate Silver is the darling of every left-wing media entity in the U.S. His predictions about the ’10 mid-terms were no better and in some cases worse than the average pollster’s. Glad to know John Herald is so familiar with his work.
