Harper’s Jack Hitt Gets Story Entirely Wrong – Was It Purposeful In Order To Create An Ugly Narrative?
Jack Hitt of Harper’s is either a moron or a deceptive creep. You decide.
He’s reporting that there was an ugly incident on the convention floor where the GOP shouted down a dignitary from Puerto Rico with chants of USA!
He called it “an ugly outburst of nativism.” He also made bigoted references to cowboy hats.
“…as a Puerto Rican party functionary—Zoraida Fonalledas, the chairwoman of the Committee on Permanent Organization—took her turn at the main-stage lectern. As she began speaking in her accented English, some in the crowd started shouting ‘U.S.A.! U.S.A.!”
That isn’t what happened at all. First of all, the chanting was going on before the woman reached the lectern, and before the “ugly natives” heard her Puerta Rican accent.
The Hitts of the world certainly can interpret dog whistles, but they apparently can’t read lips.
This is what was happening -
The Paulistinians were having their usual shouting match with the Romulans.
The Paultards were shouting “Seat Them Now!” (referring to the Maine delegates that won’t be recognized by the RNC.)
Some of the “ugly natives in cowboy hats” were shouting, “Throw them out” (referring to the Paultards) and “Point of Order.” (Go read the lips.) Some cowboy-hatted people were wearing their white baseball caps underneath them (which indicates that they were actually Pautards.)
As this fight was going on the Romney crowd erupted into the common chant, “USA!”, in order to drown out the Paultards. It had NOTHING to do with the speaker coming out on stage. In fact, at one point (you’ll hear it on the video) SHE JOINS IN WITH THE “USA” CHANT!

He wrote a story about a woman in El Salvador who was sentenced to prison for having an abortion when she was 18 weeks pregnant. It turned out that “her child was carried to term, was born alive and died in its first minutes of life.” In short, her crime was infanticide, not abortion.

Hitt is shitt. Puerto Rico IS part of the USA and has been since the late 19th century. Anyone born in Puerto Rico is a citizen of the United States and if their parents were born in Puerto Rico, that would make them a natural born citizen too.
In my opinion, these people were chanting U-S-A to show that they consider the good people of Puerto Rico to be part of US. As opposed to the demmorhoids that want to keep everyone separate and pigeon-holed and erroneously call the Puerto Ricans “hispanic” instead of the more correct term latino, or the most correct term, United States Citizens!
