Rock band Journey (“Any Way You Want It,” “Don’t Stop Believin’”) is being paid $500,000 to play a 90-minute set at a Republican National Convention fundraising event Thursday night in Tampa, Florida.

TMZ first reported the Romney Campaign had paid for the event. Later, a campaign spokesman denied the report.

Shit, I’d do it for a lot less. That much money and I’d only need one gig every ten years or so. Course I can’t play that pop crap like they can. But hey, how about some Little Walter or Marty Robbins?

Well as long as we’re speakin’ about music:

R & R should buy the rights to Right Now by Van Hagar for their official campaign song. Look up the lyrics. My reasons:

    1] It kicks ass
    2] It kicks ass
3] It has a positive, uplifting message
    4] ‘Right Now’ double entendre
5] ‘Turn This Thing Around’ = great campaign slogan
    6] It kicks ass

And besides that it kicks ass.

I kind of like Big Mama Thornton’s song Ain’t Nuthin But A Hound Dog cause it rightly addresses the opposition. Her voice needed no amplification either, and she’s buried in the same cemetery as my grandmother and Etta James — who was an outspoken obama-hater.

Or the theme song from Cops would send the right message too.

    Jump up, what’s that sound
Million soles on the Capital Mall ground
    Proggtards, burning up our legacy
    Model citizens, no more tolerance
Don’t you know how bad it’s gonna be
    You’re buried in oh twelve

Steve Perry is no longer part of Journey, been out since 1998. So $500,000 for a has been band with a replacement singer. Someone way over paid for this event.
BTW, I may not be popular here on this comment: I actually liked the old Journey songs, just about all of them.

    As do I.
    Evidently we’re in the minority.
It’s probably a follow-the-crowd, baseless,’hip’ thing to dis Journey , kind of like reflexively mocking Disco.

They produced great music by any musically literate standard.

It’s just tongue in cheek joking. I enjoy their music but will admit in their heyday it was annoying to hear the same song 12-15 times a day on the radio. Back then, I was a alt/punk/synthpop fan. Now my views have eased up a bit and I can appreciate the old pop a bit more. ;)

Nope. Journey ain’t Journey without Steve Perry.

Van Halen with either Le Roth or Hagar would have been awesome.

Why settle for just one act? They could have included some other oldies but goodies. My choice would have been Iggy Pop. Now what a great f*cking show that would have been.

Well Journey very well was Journey before Steve Perry. The can be after Steve Perry. It’s always been a Neal Schon band.

That being said, why the hatin’? They played for the good guys when 90% of the trash in that industry would have loudly told the Republicans to F-off. A feather in Journey’s cap if you ask me.

And yes, the last two CD’s with Pineda are better than the last two CD’s with Perry, IMHO.

I like a lot of different kinds of music. And I don’t consider rap to be music, so I hate a lot of crappy sounding shit too. I like to joke too. Life sucks without humor.

To the point though, if they want to get more bang for their bucks, Hank Jr. has the best anti-obama songs I have ever heard. And I hear that he actually shows up at the scheduled times nowadays.
