SOURCES: GM TO HALT VOLT PRODUCTION DUE TO LACK OF SALES
Embattled automaker General Motors plans to halt — for at least four weeks — the manufacture of its infamous Chevrolet Volt, Automotive News reports.
Apparently, “slow sales” are to blame, according to USA Today.
“It would be the second interruption in production for the Volt, which can go 38 miles on battery power before needing a recharge from its gasoline engine or via a plug-in,” USA Today adds.
The Detroit-Hamtramck plant will suspend production from Sept. 17 until Oct. 15, Automotive News reports, citing an anonymous source. Apparently, UAW leaders informed the plant’s 1,500 union workers about the scheduled halt last week, according to said anonymous source.
Suppliers were also notified of the decision last week, according to another source.
A GM spokesman declined to comment.

Article state 10,666 Volts sold YTD. What it does not tell you is that 7,600 units of this wonderful specimen of social engineering were gov’t purchases.

I wonder if all the volts on the road have saved enough pollution to make up for that spewing black cloud.

““We are not idling the plant due to poor Volt sales. We’re gearing up for production of the new Impala,” Chevy spokesman David Darovitz told USA Today in an email.”
For some reason, this sounds a lot like “We’re deliberatedly playing to smaller crowds at obama fundraisers.”

And in GM-speak, sold means “delivered to dealers”. It does not mean “sold to customer”. it’s called channel stuffing and that’s how they inflate the sales numbers, until the dealers don’t have room to take any more – which brings us where we are now and assembly line idling.

With the title of Unexpected! I thought the unemployment rate went up again.
So, an internal combustion engine is more preferrable in real world sales than an electric car-b-que? Gee! Who knew?

At around $45,000 for a decently equiped model.
Who in their right mind would pay that much for a crappy compact car?
You could buy a house (fixer-upper) for that kind of money and have a better investment.

Gee…that’s a shame.
And there’s still only about $700 million of development costs to recoup. Not to mention marketing this white elephant.

What a revolting development this is! VOLT is just new venacular for the same old POS crap that GM has been building for the last 40 yrs. Anyone remember Chevy Vegas and Chevy Corvairs. I liked later model Corvairs of 68 & 69 vintage, Vegas still and always will suck.

I am surprised the administration didn’t claim that they deliberately restricted sales to a select few who appreciate the attributes of the Volt.
Maybe if GM went back to making “the cars people don’t want to buy” they could turn a profit again.
