An off-duty police officer was riding his motorcycle down First Avenue in the Maywood section of Chicago Saturday night when he crashed into a 4-year-old girl who was trying to cross the road with her older cousin. The 43-year-old officer then shot and killed her father in an altercation that followed, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Taniyah Middleton and her 18-year-old cousin were crossing First Avenue at the same time an unnamed off-duty officer was riding his motorcycle on that road. Approaching the pair, the officer allegedly did not see them until it was too late, and in an effort to avoid them, jumped off his motorcycle. The motorcycle then skidded into the little girl.

Hearing all the commotion, the girl’s father, 26-year-old Christopher Middleton, ran outside their home. Immediately after he realized what happened, Middleton allegedly started attacking the officer, and at some point during the confrontation, the officer was able to reach for his gun and shot the girl’s father in the groin.

A cop is a cop, on duty or off. He tried to avert disaster, but he could not. Chicago has become a jungle, and the jungle police still want to survive their workday, and their off duty time. This man is Zimmerman with a badge.

This story is 2 weeks old, why haven’t we heard more about it? Why hasn’t Rev. Jackson paid a visit to the family and why hasn’t Chicago burned to the ground by angry citizens who are fed up with police murdering them for no reason (their story)?

It’s hard to imagine a man with a broken leg and broken shoulder putting up much of a fight. At least the little girl wasn’t holding a slurpee with some skittles.

Sad story for sure, but what is really disturbing are the readers comments. Immediately blaming the cop, and assuming racism is to blame. How do you combat such ignorance?

As a parent, seeing my child laying there injured, after I determined the extent of injuries, the assailant, cop or no, would be dealt a reckoning. It’s a mystery to me that anyone wouldn’t.

    @ Carlos The Jackal

So, if your child ran out into the road and a car hit them, at no fault of the driver, you would offer the driver a “reckoning” for something that was not their fault?

You jump to the conclusion that the driver of the motorcycle was the “assailant”, which implies that he intentionally hit the girl. If you use common sense and piece together all the reports, it appears that the kids crossed into his path and he tried to avoid them but could not. Then he tried to render aid and was attacked by the father and cousin.

Innocent until proven guilty. Not guilty becaue the media says so….

That cop had better hide….He will be hunted. Some one will pay for the mount that will hang in a room somewhere.
