“Holocaust Obsessed”

Home - by - August 25, 2012 - 17:00 America/New_York - 29 Comments

There is an odd term being thrown about – Holocaust Obsessed. It’s used by leftists to try and paint anyone concerned with a second holocaust, which is a very real possibility in today’s political climate, as “crazy.”

Try and get away with the term “slavery obsessed.”

Slate -

It’s the new fashionable meme for those who don’t want to be overly troubled by the memory of the death camps and looming threats of a second holocaust. The term enables those who use it to suggest that those more concerned than they are “obsessed” in an unseemly way.

It’s the word “obsessed” that seems problematic to me. It implies a bright line between legitimate interest and something else, something over-intense, feverish, and counterproductive. But where is that line? How much time should we spend worrying about the threat of future Holocausts and genocides, not just those involving Jews.

The much-lauded German novelist W.G. Sebald has been quoted saying “no serious person thinks of anything else.” This was obviously a form of hyperbole designed to jolt people out of complacency. But it raises the question: How much does a serious person think about the Holocaust? What does it mean to be “obsessed” and what does it mean to give the Holocaust an appropriate place in our political and cultural consciousness?

I admit I was stunned in exploring this question to find no less than 272,000 Google hits for “obsessed with the Holocaust.” And it’s not just racist sites (including David Duke’s) or anti-Zionist sites like Mondoweiss.

Increasingly the word “obsessed”—as “obsessed with the holocaust” or “holocaust obsessed”—has entered contemporary discourse, often used by Jews as an epithet to describe other Jews. It may have entered the mainstream as far back as the publication of Peter Novick’s 1999 book The Holocaust in American Life, in which he accuses American Jews as a whole of exploiting the Holocaust in bad faith, either as a “victimization Olympics” or for political (primarily pro-Israel) purposes.

The term “holocaust-obsessed” appeared in The New Yorker in an article about Israeli politician Avraham Burg who, according to David Remnick, “describes the country in its current state as Holocaust obsessed. …” Too much attention to the extermination of 6 million Jews oh so long ago, just because 6 million or so more are being threatened with exterminationist rhetoric today.

Obsessed? When there is a person who has created a following (along with his very own logo/symbol) of Ignorant Masses who never bother to actually SEE who the man really is? When the HATRED spewing from “this man” is so akin to the likes of the evil one along with his “followers” in the early 30s? When the attempted (AND ACTUAL) control of businesses and people seem almost identical between Nazi Germany and our once great country under “the man calling himself Obama”?

No, not obsession. Reality striking us in the face. People ignore it at their peril.

Holocaust Obsessed??? Why yes I am. If Islam and the Left are to have their way the Holocaust will be rewritten in history as the time the Jews tried to rule the world and were mercifully overthrown by Hitler’s Nazi Germany.

Yes I proudly stand with Israel and the Jews.

Most of these types of progressively obsessed liberals claim that they want world peace, but they would rather put a shock collar on you and hit the button every time you mention a logical way that it might be achieved.

    Obsession is to intense loathing
    just as
phobia is to recognition of a dangerous death cult.

Kind of funny to me how apparently I detest Hitler’s nazi Germany and completely expect to have a civil war in America against Sharia.

    Weird huh?

It probably is a somewhat fair phrase. The Holocaust gets a lot more press than Rwanda, the Holodomor, the Armenian genocide, the Great Leap forward, the Japanese acts in WWII, the atrocities in the Balkans (both in the 90s, and during WWII) the slaughter of cracka-ass crackas in the southern African nations, the slaughter in the Congo, the Killing Fields, etc. Hell, it even gets more press than other WWII German-conducted genocides (gypsies, homosexuals, Slavs, Poles, etc.), what happened to Christian (and Jewish) populations in the Middle East, etc.

People do seem to get a bit more hung up on it than other mass killings. Probably in part because a lot of the survivors were educated and made records of their experiences; in part because it was the first one really exposed to the world in pictures/films; in part because there were so many witnesses to the camps; and in part because it happened in Europe, rather than in some more periperhal (for the time) place.

And I’m glad you listed many of the other genocides that we should never forget. Contrary to what the Left wants us to do.

Fair enough, but “Holocaust” with a capital “H” is a specific noun, not a generic one. It’s “The Holocaust”, not “a holocaust”.

IMO, the WWII Holocaust of the Jews is the only one their history-challenged minds can recall. Or it’s the only one they think matters to the world.

Either way, we should remember all of recorded history’s genocides, and not allow the Left to tell us what we should or should not “obsess” about.

It’s been said that when Hitler was finished with the Jews, he was going to come after the Christians. Well, the parallel of both Jews and Christians being persecuted at the same time, as it now exists in some countries (including our own), would have made that devil proud. Oh, there’s another holocaust coming–it’s final design and mechanisms just haven’t come into full fruition and won’t for a while. The hate’s got to build even more (much more than now). The Brown Shirts have to be sewn. And of course, the Antichrist has to be groomed for the occasion. This will be coupled with the saying of growing attention, “We are all worshiping the same god,” which will be used to help usher in the One World Religion led by the False Prophet (the Son-of-Perdition’s sidekick). Together they’ll eventually convince the nations that all the world’s problems stem from Jewish/Jude-Christian influence; the Antichrist will ultimately tell all religious leaders, including Muslims and even Rome to stuff it–proclaiming himself God!

Please God (my God, the real one), I don’t want to be here for that; or at least Lord, no torture. I’ll them to shove their “Mark” and take the guillotine.

    @Roscoe–

O/T, responding to a question you asked me on anther thread:

“Yahweh” and “Jehovah” are sort of like nicknames for God. The Hebrew word for “God” was unpronounceable, and these two names arose out of historical attempts to make it pronounceable. (Trust me on this–I studied Hebrew.)

Hindus have a pantheon of gods, and therefore are more closely aligned with the Greeks and the Romans. Buddhists do not have a “god”, although some Buddhists consider Buddha to be like a god (some Confucians are similar, in their understanding of Confucius; Confucianism itself has no official god).

“Allah” on the other hand is not, never was, and never will be God. Allah was a tribal “deity”–the moon god–which Mohammad promoted to solo godhood. (Wikipedia skirts around what Mohammad did–not surprisingly–but what it does say is interesting:

“In pre-Islamic Arabia amongst pagan Arabs, Allah was not considered the sole divinity, having associates and companions, sons and daughters–a concept that was deleted under the process of Islamization.” I’m surprised that section has survived Wikipedia purges.)

Friend of the Family makes a good point.

Nazi-ism never has died. It just took on a differant name. The only differance between the pre-war nazis is the olive skinned branch in the middle east was allowed to fester.
The Grand Mufti was recruited and was supplied weapons by Hitler to be his middle eastern branch of jew killers.
He started the muslim brotherhood and was intstrumental in the arab wars against srael. When he couldn’t get committment from arab nations he used the pulpit of hate via the muslim brotherhood.
Arafat took over this hatred and since then several more branches have sprouted from the brotherhood, hezbollah, hamas, islamic jihaad,al quaida, the taliban.
But yet the lefties want to negotiate with these killers and countries who’ve declared jews as enemies who plot to kill jews and condemn jews…….just more proof the left are nazis, nazi supporters, and anti-semites.
