When Sandra Day O’Connor became the 1st woman on the Supreme Court she said in an interview something to the effect of “It’s great to be the first woman on the Court, I just have to make sure I’m not the last”.

Meaning, “If I screw this up, no one will ever appoint a woman again!” Why couldn’t our first (or is that 2nd?) black president have been Allen West, Thomas Sowell, or even Condi Rice?
