Akin should have been ready for questions like that. Frankly, whether he mispoke, didn’t make himself clear or actually believes what he said isn’t the key issue here. The issue was that McCaskill was extremely vulnerable and that would have been one seat closer to pushing Harry Reid to the backbench. Now the infamous undecided vote which would have probably swung toward Akin (well, more to Romney and the GOP in general) will now rethink their vote. Nobody wants to be accused of voting for someone who says something so far out of line that the press turn him into an object of ridicule.

I think what he should do is make way for a different candidate and make sure that people know he’s doing it for the good of the country as this election is far too important for one man to risk over one misjudgment.

I don’t care how socially conservative anyone is; we have a republic to save this election! He is a dumbass and should have kept his mouth shut. He just lost us a much needed senate seat. Abortion will never be illegal, unless we elect an abortion freak dictator with no respect for the rule of law like Obama. If you are against abortion don’t have one, if you are against gay marriage don’t marry a person of the same sex. Social issues lose independents. Live your life as you wish, and let others do the same as long as it doesn’t infringe on your rights. We have governments telling us what to eat, and a Senate candidate making stuff up about reproduction. I hope for the best this November; but optimism is tough in this climate.
