The Left Shows Its True (Racist) Colors
Harry Reid, king demagoguer, let his hypocritical mask slip a bit. Mark Arminder reports the following revelation found in the soon-to-be released book Game Change:
On page 37, a remark, said “privately” by Sen. Harry Reid, about Barack Obama’s racial appeal. Though Reid would later say that he was neutral in the presidential race, the truth, the authors write, was that his “encouragement of Obama was unequivocal. He was wowed by Obama’s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama — a “light-skinned” African American “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,” as he said privately. Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama’s race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination.
While what Harry Reid said is offensive and, in fact, truly racist (as opposed to the race card-y Racist ™ ) it shouldn’t surprise us. I’m just surprised he wasn’t chosen as the Vice President! Joe Biden must be patting himself on the back for going even further and calling Obama surprisingly “clean and articulate.” Silly me; I didn’t realize that Post-Racial actually meant making absolutely everything ABOUT one’s race. I really need to study my Newspeak Dictionary. Hey, at least Reid never attended one of those racist Tea Parties, huh? He’s not Racist-Racist since he promotes that sweet, sweet liberal policy and isn’t that all that matters?
However, it honestly shouldn’t be shocking; he’s not the first on the Left whose true colors have been shown. He has apologized, of course, for “misspeaking”. But, he didn’t misspeak; it’s what he truly believes. You see, once again, the people constantly hurling the “Racist!” slur at others are in actuality the people whom only see color. In addition to Harry Reid’s and Vice President Joe Biden’s comments, further proof has been proffered time and time again. Maureen Dowd, not long ago, heard the non-existent word “boy” at the end of Joe Wilson’s “You Lie.” Project much, Maureen? (If that was your own thought and you didn’t plagiarize that as well.)
I’m really tired of trying to explain to the Left that they are the ones who see color everywhere and in everything and that they are diminishing true acts of real racism with their willy-nilly tossing about of the Racist card; they are reprehensibly rendering the word utterly meaningless, and that just stinks. In fact, they are diminishing and demeaning the entire Civil Rights movement by incessantly hurling the race card in false instances, all while behaving in a truly racist manner themselves.
While democrat politicians seem to believe that they are members of some great intelligentsia that know better than I do, they aren’t. Granted, perhaps I’ve never held the title of Community Organizer, but I live outside of an Ivory Tower, amongst people who have actually accomplished things and done things for others, not just talked and spouted feel good-y theories and rhetoric whilst holding a figurative gun in hand to force others to sacrifice and walk in lockstep with their prejudiced ideas of what one should believe.
See, we don’t see color. Unlike ya’ll we don’t live in places where everyone is exactly like we are. We don’t see people as skin colors; we see them as our neighbors, our friends, our kids’ teachers, our local shop owners. But the Smarter Than Us Left doesn’t believe in Post-Racial anything. Their bread and butter is identity politics. They MUST, in order to maintain power, put everyone in victim boxes and pit people against one and another.
They are not post-racial in the slightest; quite the opposite. They believe that everyone in one of their little boxed up “groups” must think the same; they believe in Race Politics. This is the most dangerous and harmful kind of racism, as it is insidious and sneaky. They praise Martin Luther King, Jr, yet they never heed his words. They always judge first by the color of someones skin. When they hurl the Racist slur at us for daring to disagree with President Obama, they either do not understand or they choose to disregard the fact that it has not one whit to do with the color of someones skin; it has everything to do with the content of their character.
You know what I do wish y’all had “inherited” from Bush? A desire to get rid of the “soft bigotry of lowered expectations.” Instead, you foment it. You exclaim in amazement “Oh, look! He sure does talk purty! For a black guy and all.” How vile. It also means that your race card is no longer accepted. Having you attempt to use a race card would be like Al Gore attempting to use a bitter, old tool card; utterly laughable.
It’s perhaps harsh to say, but often the truth is harsh: in the minds of some on the left, Obama is a “token.” I’d feel horribly sad for him, if he didn’t almost embrace that notion himself.
And if I didn’t care so little for his character.
UPDATE: Politico reports that Bill Clinton shows his racist stripes as well:
[A]s Hillary bungled Caroline, Bill’s handling of Ted was even worse. The day after Iowa, he phoned Kennedy and pressed for an endorsement, making the case for his wife. But Bill then went on, belittling Obama in a manner that deeply offended Kennedy. Recounting the conversation later to a friend, Teddy fumed that Clinton had said, A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.

I find it ironic that people who treat others as equals are the ones usually labeled “racist.”

If BO had any character, he wouldn’t be BO. The lack of self-respect is palpable. He’s a grovelling POS and should return to his job as bagman for the Chicago gang.

“They MUST, in order to maintain power, put everyone in victim boxes and pit people against one and another.”
An excellent point, Lori. I have to say that there seem to be hundreds of thousands who willingly jump into the “victim boxes”, because it relieves them of having to take any responsibility for their own poor choices in life. They do not realize that to be relieved of responsibility is to be relieved of their freedom. I wonder how many people could technically be called “Wards of the State”?
Great article.

I still think the left’s racism (and basically every other ism they are) comes from the belief that they are better and smarter than anybody else. Does anyone really think the vast majority of the left think Al Sharpton is as smart as they are? Publicly, they tolerate and even praise clowns like Sharpton, Jackson because they are their “useful idiots”.

Oh c’mon guys, you know all is forgiven. Heck, Robert KKK Byrd can use the _igger word 3 times on FoxNews Sunday and nothing ever came of that.
Accept the fact there is a double standard in America and us folks are on the wrong side of it. Nothing they say is ever held against them while we don’t even have to say anything and they’ll put the words in our mouths and then crucify us for it.

May God have mercy on my soul, Lori, but I’m going to defend the utterly despicable Harry R. There are many reasons to despise him but this is not one of them.
He was making a pragmatic political evaluation. To pretend that race, especially black vs. white race, is not part of the political picture is simple ignoring the obvious. I am increasingly irritated by describing as RACISM almost any simple mentioning of superficial racial or ethnic differences.
Now if ol’ Harry had said something like “Obama is nowhere near as depraved as your average Negro” that would nail it down fairly well. But he said nothing like that. At least at the time.

I, too, hate the “race card” being thrown down for everything. Which is WHY I’m holding Harry Reid to that standard. He is one of the biggest demagoguers and race baiters out there. You want to play the race card, Harry? Well, then be prepared to pay.
Plus, I do believe the Left’s obsession with race is partially projection based. THEY are the ones who see color everywhere. They see it FIRST, before they see the actual *person*. And they truly believe everyone who simply has a higher melanin count should be lumped in together and should think the same way .. hence the calls of “Uncle Tom” and “race-traitor” any time a black person *dares* to be Conservative.
It’s not so much Harry Reid’s one comment, taken alone; it’s everything together, actions and the far Left as a whole.

@Lori @ Ebony
I believe in our beloved PUK’s statement.
“Make the bastards live by their own words.”
I don’t think the left deserves to be cut any slack at any time, no matter how minor the transgression, because they are setting the standards – or should I say double standards?
I will play the race card back at them given any opportunity to do so because THEY are the ones that create tension and anxiousness between the races. I know people who avoid the company of blacks for fear of saying or doing something wrong. This phobia is caused by the left. But Reid can lead a carefree life, loose with the verbiage because he has a (D) besides his name? Nope.

Perfect. Right on. Dittos. The Dem ignore history (while busily re-writing it (projecting their sins on conservatives)), because the history of the left is full of racism, eugenics, genocide, abortion, and other abominations…
