Niall Ferguson: Obama’s Gotta Go

Why does Paul Ryan scare the president so much? Because Obama has broken his promises, and it’s clear that the GOP ticket’s path to prosperity is our only hope.

    Oh my. Oh my. Just the fact that a writer was allowed to print, “Ask yourself how the liberal media would have behaved if George W. Bush had used drones this way” speaks volumes about the growing realization of media bias and the waning influence of the old guard media.

    A well written and accurate article. Frankly I’m surprised it’s from the DB – they’re normally on my ignore list.

    Ironically, the core Obamacare concept of the “individual mandate” (requiring all Americans to buy insurance or face a fine) was something the president himself had opposed when vying with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination. A much more accurate term would be “Pelosicare,” since it was she who really forced the bill through Congress.

    This is more than just an Obama-bashing article from the second biggest news rag in the country.
    Editor Tina Brown is known for her edgy, controversial cover stories, and this is no exception.
    Now that Newsweek is essentially throwing Obama under the bus, all bets are off.

    He is betting his reputation as a forecaster on the federalization of Europe : a coming fiscal union, with a pan-European Treasury Department, ran by the Germans, basically. He’s quite adamant that no country will exit the eurozone, and that when the system will crash, it will reboot as the United States of Europe, with the new Euro pegged to gold.

    Ferguson wrote a book called Civilization: The West and the Rest, and it was on the “New Books” shelf over at the local library. It was also the first book I grabbed back in February to commence the start of my journey through the annals of history. I’ll be damned. In it, he makes it quite clear with tons of substantiated evidence and documented writings of how Europe and eventually Great Britain and the US took the ball from those who started the game. Of all that is negatively said about evil the capitalism and imperialism perpetrated by the West, the truth is through centuries of European commercialism, mercantilism, reformations of church and government, and scientific innovation along with agricultural advances, the rest of the world literally remained dormant and stubbornly resistant to change. The Russians had their chance and blew it with their Czar attitude, so did the Chinese more interested in buzzing on opium. Sure, there was plenty of neighborly aggression on the European continent, with new wars popping up on a regular basis for hundreds and hundreds of years, but hey, it don’t come easy. Niall explains it well and they can all go to hell!

    @Norman Einstein–It looks like some more internal polls are getting leaked. Look for Ulsterman to say WH Insider, or more likely WS Insider, had something to do with Ferguson’s devastating slam. The MSM is going to cover this up with wall-to-wall Todd Akin next week, but they’re hopeless. The fix is in, and that faint rumble way upstream is the Preference Cascade.

    @Bad Brad — I’m in Northern California too and unfortunately, my county would vote for the democrat jackass, literally!, rather than a conservative. We also have lots of illegals here. And you can bet the demmorhoids will have them registered and ready to go by election day.

    Look at the following two maps.

    Map 1
    Map 2

    In the first one, the map on the left shows how CA voted for Obama in 2008. In the second, the map on the right shows how CA voted for Prop 8. I’m hoping for the second map in November. But I know that LaLa Land will vote overwhelmingly for Obama so he’ll win CA easy.

    @66chevelle, it wouldn’t surprise me either if WHI or WSI were behind this.
    I know WHI said that they had some irons in the fire to shake things up, so it will be interesting to see how this goes.

    The LSM will probably make a lot of noise about Akin’s clumsy remarks, but I think people are bored to death with that stuff now.
    And I hope you’re right that the rumble upstream IS the beginning of a HUGE Preference Cascade.

  49. Name Redacted™

    @Katechon

    The CA government let the central valley (a major farming area) go dry a couple years back because sending the water down from the bay area (or thereabouts) was endangering a wee subspecies of fish. It killed a lot of crops and jobs. Since then we’ve had a couple of really good rainy seasons so there may be some farm recovery but I can’t be certain. I am writing from my memory, although I would normally get you more accurate details but right now I am feeling lazy.

    I am in the Los Angeles area. I have seen a handful of Obama stickers and only a couple Romney stickers around. I may put one on to encourage friends and get my windshield bashed in. What happened in California over the last 10-15 years from what I can tell is conservatives have been bleeding out to lower cost-of-living/more conservative states, and during the housing boom, all the a-holes who ruined the big cities bought property in the conservative burbs. Now they are ruining formerly conservative cities like mine with their sucky voting habits. I don’t know how much longer I can stand it. I dream of moving north, or east to Arizona, if this trend continues.

    P.S. Newsweek scores a point. If more of the mainstream media moves this direction, it will give wafflers who make all their decisions based on what the media says is cool the go-ahead to NOT vote for Obama, and it will be beautiful!

    @Katechon–

    To piggyback on what Name Redacted said, I’ve heard another stake on the Central Valley farmland decimation (sorry–this post will be long.)

    You need to put this together with the multi-billion-dollar High Speed Rail abomination, which was recently voted through by the legislature (even though CA is broke six ways to Sunday).

    Compelling, and totally plausible, scenario:

    (1) Agenda 21 ultimately plans to herd everyone along transportation corridors, and get them off the land. This dovetails nicely with:

    (2) High Speed Rail is proposed, but the land where the first sections of the HSR will be–in the food-producing Central Valley–is worth a lot, due to rich farmland!

    (3) water to the Central Valley farmlands is turned off (with the excuse that we have to “save” the Delta smelt)

    (4) farmland dries up and becomes virtually worthless; farmers go belly-up financially

    (“…Costing at least $4.15 billion, the [first] segment would run between Borden and Corcoran with stations in Fresno and Hanford, which are located in an area of the state hit so hard by the recession and declines in agriculture that it has been dubbed the New Appalachia.” from L.A.Now, 12/2/10)

    (5) formerly valuable farmland is now dust bowl–”right of way” for High Speed rail is available for a song

    (6) as soon as right of way is secured, and the HSR is underway, the water can be turned on again–and the once-again productive and rich farmland alongside the High Speed Rail corridor can now be sold to government-connected Agribusiness. Family farms are history.
