SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — An 83-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday to murdering his 94-year-old former roommate at a short-term care facility two years ago.

Prosecutors alleged that William Leo McDougall fatally clubbed Manh Van Nguyen  on Oct. 1, 2010, because the victim was singing in Vietnamese and he was annoyed.

The two shared a room as they recovered from hip surgery at the Palm Terrace Health Care Center in Laguna Woods.

McDougall allegedly grabbed a metal rod from their closet and hit Nguyen over the head.

The defendant’s attorney Rudolph Loewenstein disputed that Nguyen’s singing motivated the assault.

“I think the evidence is unclear whether the other man was even singing or not,” the attorney said.

Wouldn’t it have been less taxing for an 83-year-old recuperating from a hip replacement to just ASK for a room change?

So he lived his whole life only to have murdered someone near the end of it. Be sure to read his latest publication, “How To Keep All Your Lifelong Pent Up Anger Boiling Till You’re 83″.

    Gotta be a Democrat.

@Corona: “So he lived his whole life only to have murdered someone near the end of it”

It’s the perfect time to kill someone. What’s the worst that can happen? The state will put you in a place where you get free food, free health care, daily exercise, and visitations. Not a bad deal when you’re 83. “Oh, a life sentence? That could be all the way until Wednesday!”

Van Nguyen’s singing probably sounded too much like Rosie singing the National Anthem.
