Executive order from Governor Jan Brewer blocks IDs, benefits for illegal immigrants
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Wednesday ordered state agencies to deny driver’s licenses and other public benefits to young illegal immigrants who obtain work authorizations under a new Obama administration policy.
After the order was issued, supporters of the program and the DREAM Act took to the streets of Phoenix in protest. Video from Air15 showed the protesters carrying signs and walking down Central Avenue toward the State Capitol.
In an executive order, Brewer said she was reaffirming the intent of current Arizona law denying taxpayer-funded public benefits and state identification to illegal immigrants.
Young illegal immigrants around the nation on Wednesday began the process of applying for federal work permits under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
The federal policy defers deportations for that group if they meet certain criteria, including arrival in the United States before they turned 16 and no convictions for certain crimes.
After President Barack Obama announced the policy change in June, Brewer labeled it “backdoor amnesty” and political pandering by the Democratic president.
Arizona has been in the vanguard of states enacting laws against illegal immigration.
The U.S. Supreme Court in June overturned parts of the Arizona enforcement law known as SB1070 but ruled that a key provision on requiring police to ask people about their immigration status under certain circumstances can be implemented.
The Obama administration challenged that law in 2010 after Brewer signed it into law.

Why should taxpayers have to foot the bill for INVADERS? This is absolute lunacy. The gov sounds like the only sane woman in the state (well, besides Sheriff Joe).
So will Holder’s counter suit stop her from doing this or will her decision stand until the court case is decided? What about appeals?

This so called dream act is obama’s first step towards full amnesty. In AZ we now have illegals openly declaring their crime and demanding more. The Latina activists were out in full force last night on all of the local Phoenix and Tucson TV news casts demanding more. They didn’t stop there, now that they have the backing of an illegal exec from obama they went on a march with signs to the State Capitol to protest Our Governor’s order not to allow them drivers license or welfare benefits. We’ll see how it all plays out.

You know, Only Arizona’s governor would allow formerly illegals to work and pay taxes, pay into the states social security funds and then deny them a drivers license. Seems like she thinks he is in a state without a budget crisis.
Isn’t allowing more people to work also paying into our taxes and state funds?
Only Jan brewer is stupid enough to cry about how short we are on our budget yet she does NOT want them to work in her state.
Wouldn’t it be illegal to allow them to pay taxes and then NOT allow them the services offered by paying these same funds?
Her intent is racist and simple, do not allow brown skin folks to work in Arizona even if they pay taxes legally. That’s the same as stealing in my book.
So they will be allowed to work in Arizona and pay taxes ans social security but they will not be allowed to have a license to get there?
Aren’t taxpayers also paying for highways and such in Arizona? Isn’t this the same state that a few years ago was found to have mishandled highways funds so badly we had to try to vote for another hike to pay for them.
Yes, Arizona. The land of the free to be racist. Jan Brewer and Joke Arp Eye Oh better be ready for this next election. There are ALOT of hispanics registering to vote this election and Obama will most likely take the state.
