Russian attack submarine sailed in Gulf of Mexico undetected for weeks, U.S. officials say

WA Free Beacon

A Russian nuclear-powered attack submarine armed with long-range cruise missiles operated undetected in the Gulf of Mexico for several weeks and its travel in strategic U.S. waters was only confirmed after it left the region, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

It is only the second time since 2009 that a Russian attack submarine has patrolled so close to U.S. shores.

The stealth underwater incursion in the Gulf took place at the same time Russian strategic bombers made incursions into restricted U.S. airspace near Alaska and California in June and July, and highlights a growing military assertiveness by Moscow.

The submarine patrol also exposed what U.S. officials said were deficiencies in U.S. anti-submarine warfare capabilities—forces that are facing cuts under the Obama administration’s plan to reduce defense spending by $487 billion over the next 10 years.

The Navy is in charge of detecting submarines, especially those that sail near U.S. nuclear missile submarines, and uses undersea sensors and satellites to locate and track them.

The fact that the Akula was not detected in the Gulf is cause for concern, U.S. officials said.

The officials who are familiar with reports of the submarine patrol in the Gulf of Mexico said the vessel was a nuclear-powered Akula-class attack submarine, one of Russia’s quietest submarines.

A Navy spokeswoman declined to comment.

There could be more to this than first thought. NATO class name Akula (Shark) is an attack sub. However, the Russians have named one of their own subs the Akula class. It is NOT an attack sub. IT IS A BOOMER! We call them the Typhoon class. She displaces more than a WWI battleship, holds 20 ballistic missles, and she is HUGE!

So which is it? Are we talking about the NATO designation or the Russian designation. IT’S IMPORTANT!

What “US oficials”? I’m not surprised the military didn’t comment on this. If they deny it was undetected then the russkies redouble their efforts to make if quieter, if you confirm it then the russkies redouble their efforts to make it quieter because they figure the US is conning them and their sub was tracked. I’d be more inclined to think that they sub was followed by a US boat every foot of it’s journey.

I call BULLSHIT on that. They had to be Obama-appointed officials because they are flat-out LYING. The Akula (Shark) class attack submarine is NOT one of the quietest. In fact, due to it’s nuclear power plant coolant pump’s shitty design, it’s one of the NOISIEST submarine designs out there. And thanks to Obama defense cutbacks, it allowed this sub to also become the NOSIEST, sticking it’s snout into our backyard where it’s not wanted.

I fish out in the damn Gulf! If I see some commie periscope nosing around, I’m gonna throw a full can of beer at it, that’s how mad I am.

Here’s another piece of defense info the MSM will never tell you: prior to the USA winning the Cold War, the Akulas’ propeller got quieted down by several magnitudes after Japan’s Toshiba Corporation and Norway’s Kongberg VapenFabrik sold highly-secret classified US propeller grinding technology to the G-ddamned Soviet Union.

I can vouch on that one. Stole it from a defense contractor out of Mountain View Cali.
But that craps been going on forever. TRW sold the Ruskies equipment to grind precision bearings back in the 60′s allowing them to vastly improve the accuracy of their ICBM’s. Before that they were lucky if their missiles hit the ground. Then there’s Wild Bill Clinton and Space Systems Loral selling stuff to the Chicoms. Anything for a buck I guess.

Wasn’t it the Victor III class subs that were the primary beneficiaries of Toshiba-Kongsberg? They were the ones that were markedly quieter than their predecessors.

As far as the scandal itself – the Sovs always said that the West would sell them the rope that they’d use to hang us. It’s the downside of a free market – anyone can sell anything to anyone. Sucks, but once you let your high-tech stuff get into third party hands, you’ve lost control of it and are prisoner to their good/bad intentions.

I miss the good old days of ASW; when we could track a Ruskie sub through the ocean by the radioactive wake they left. They have a whole fleet of their early nukes welded side by side in the north sea, still far to “hot” to put people aboard to scrap them.

Our SOSUS (SOund SUrveillance System) network *should* have picked up this boat – but I don’t know if this system is still in use or not today, what with all the budget cuts and all. (I retired in 1997, was a Sonar Technician – or as the LibTards would say, a Whale Killer!)

I believe it’s going to take just one bomb to wreck our country. Any big city will do. The communications breakdown and panic alone will paralyze ten times worse than 9/11. So maybe, you’ll be sitting at your computer while the TV’s on in the other room, as you laugh at something on Facebook, suddenly you hear New York has just been vaporized. You won’t be sitting at your desk for long will you now? Hell no. We, the government and everyone else are going to freak out. What a delight for the liberals to institute martial law. Someone said you’ll run to the FEMA camp for safety and protection. You’ll get it too, for a while. But you ain’t coming out alive. If you manage to get out to the hills, you better hide good. The hordes are going to be mean and hungry. It’s 1955 again. Just what was that sub doing there? Russia’s getting ready.

“Daddy Davis’ CPUSA number was 47544.”

In The Communist, Kengor delves deep into Davis’s past to produce an extensively documented biography of the man who had perhaps the most influence on Barack Obama of anyone in his life. Davis was a highly influential member of the American Communist Party, CPUSA member #47544, according to the FBI. He spent a lifetime engaged in pro-Soviet, communist activities. He likely moved to Hawaii to engage in surveillance for the Soviets, who considered the islands – not yet a U.S. state – of key military significance. Kengor shows just how deep Davis’s communist ties were, and how important he was to Obama’s worldview.

Spy and sub killing is what it was designed for.
No ICBM but you wouldn’t need it if you were within 20 miles. Torpedo launched Cruse Missiles can carry small nukes and EMP devices.

Just one of these off the East Coast could take out most of New York City and DC’s electronics in about 10 minutes and no one could stop it.

Brad & Roscoe – yep, it was primarily the Victor III class that benefited but so did the Akula’s and the Typhoons.

As for Loral, prior to their bribing the Clinton’s and Algore to allow Loral to sell highly-classified ballistic missile technology to Communist China, the ChiCom’s best CEP Circular Error of Probability was something on the order of three miles. But within less than a year, their next ICBM test had a CEP of only 300 yards. Thanks Traitor Clintons & Traitor Algore!

I’ll make this prediction right now: just like the Venona Papers proved that hundreds of well-known Libtards were flat-out Soviet spies and traitors from the 40′s, 50′s and 60′s, I hope within my lifetime that Communist China collapses and becomes a true republic practicing democracy.

Their intelligence archives will open up and the Clintons, Algore and all the other Libtard traitors will be exposed for the America-hating backstabing shitweasels they truly are. Best thing of all is that treason has no statute of limitations. Stand ‘em up against a wall, give ‘em an unfiltered Camel cigarette and tell the firing squad, “!Fuego!”
