Brian Lee Aumick, Upset with High Insurance Quote, Allegedly Threatens to Shoot Up Insurance Office Aurora Style
Prosecutors in Pierce County say 54-year-old Brian Lee Aumick wasn’t happy with a quote he got last week from American Family Insurance Agency in Tacoma. And while being unhappy with an insurance quote isn’t illegal, or even particularly rare, what authorities say Aumick did next is: he allegedly threatened to shoot up the insurance office in a style similar to that of the Batman: The Dark Knight Rises Colorado movie theater massacre.
Filing felony telephone harrasment charges in the case last week, prosecutors say Aumick called the American Family Insurance Agency office in the 1900 block of North Pearl Street in Tacoma last Thursday, Aug. 2. After receiving a quote he believed to be too high, Aumick allegedly contacted the American Family Insurance corporate office in Wisconsin and said, among other things, “There is a special place in Hell for Insurance Agents and what happened in Colorado is going to happen in your agency,” according to charging documents.
After taking the call, the American Family corporate office contacted the owner of the Tacoma location, identified in charging documents as Wiley Greenland, who reported the threat to local police. Charging documents indicate police responded to the scene after being advised by a 911 dispatcher that “a potential client had called in and threatened to kill everyone in the office.”
Prosecutors say that earlier in the day Greenland’s son took the call from Aumick and provided the quote that allegedly set him off.

The quote appeared to be higher than the defendant expected. The defendant was upset with [Greenland's son] and then the defendant stated, “So you guys are whores too?” As the conversation ended the defendant stated, “You’re [sic] mother’s a whore.” “Go fuck yourself.”

If that was his reaction to the quote he obviously never got around to the limitations and exclusions part of the policy. Which, in fact, is the bulk of the document. THAT would have really chapped his ass.
