Armed Citizen in TX Stops Shooting Spree and Saves Cop by Making 150+ Yard Shot With a Pistol

GunsSaveLives

This is a pretty amazing story. An armed private citizen assisted a police officer who was pinned down by the gunfire of a madman who had just killed 3 people and could have killed many more. Amazingly the concerned citizen, Vic Stacy, did so by taking a shot of 150+ yards using only a pistol.

The caliber and gun are unknown, but Stacy mentions a “magnum bullet” which could mean a .357 or .44. Stacy landed multiple shots on the shooter and this allowed the police officer to also land shots with his AR-15 while the suspect was distracted.

Helluva shot. I know people who can do it, but not many.

JEB Stewart met his maker as the result of just such a shot though the exact distance is not known.

It isn’t about the shot, its about the attitude. Assuming responsibility for what is right and acting.

At that distance and shooting accurately, it just about has to have been either a Colt Python or S&W 686 (or similar) .357 Magnum with a 6-inch or better barrel.

If I heard that correctly, he hit the gunman 6 times from about 165 yards. Damn.

I wish I could shake his hand.

That right there is why I’m really nice to the general public, especially while on duty.

You never know when one will save your life and I’d hate to have them stop and think, “that was the officer who was a jerk to me” and then decide, “screw it, let him die…”

Found out today that TONTO in Spanish means “fool.” (Appropriately, Tonto will be played by Johnny Depp next year.)

    Nice shootin’, Tex!

Hitting a human-sized target six times with a pistol at 150 FEET is good shooting. 150 YARDS is spectacular!

Let’s see? Fox News will report this and let the viewers decide. MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC will either ignore it or go out of their way to portray this man as a ignorant, redneck, gun toting, bible thump-er who won’t release his tax returns. Oh, and he eats at Chick-Fli-A!

Reminds me of Elmer Keith. He could hit stuff at 150 yards with a .44 mag. It’s possible. But I’d be afraid to assist a cop in a firefight. Might wind up dead. Or at least in a huge legal beef. Good thing it probably will never happen.

I can hit paper at 100 yards with my .357, never had a reason to shoot any farther. That is a hell of a shot.
If I had to make that shot, I would go with a Ruger .357. Easier to stay on target for follow up shots with less recoil than the .44

Reading through the comments something struck me. An almost complete lack of bullshit about handguns.Perhaps a few overeager to assign makes and models to an unidentified weapon, but nothing more than that.

I think this place actually has some shooters here. You have no idea how that cheers and comforts me!

    @Lowell

I’ve been loading my own for 25 years on an RCBS press. Love to shoot the .357 because I can load anything from a slow paper cutting .38 to a 2000 fps man-stopping 125 gr.
I am comfortable around other shooters too.

I hit the link and watched the clip, and read the comments.
Apparently the shooter MISSPOKE; he meant 165 FEET (approx 50yds).

Which is still a good shot on a live target. He hit the sniper three times and the officer hit him twice with his rifle thus ended the threat.
