7 Cameroon athletes ‘defect’ at London Olympics: report
Seven athletes from Cameroon have “defected” in London where some were participating in the 2012 Olympics, Cameroon media reported Tuesday, citing an official.
The disappearance of the seven athletes was reported on the website of the state daily Cameroon Tribune.
According to the head of Cameroon’s Olympics delegation, David Ojong, “28 (delegation members) returned to Cameroon, 24 are still in the (Olympic) village and seven have defected,” the newspaper reported him telling the country’s sports minister at a meeting on Sunday.
On Tuesday the sports ministry declined to comment on the situation and no explanation was given for the defections.
The missing athletes are five boxers, one swimmer and one woman football (soccer) player, the Cameroon Tribune said.

Wow, I just looked up the CIA Factbook on Cameroon and they have a 20% muslim population. That is a dangerously high percentage of muslims. I haven’t read anything about Islamic activity in the news, but then again, the Progressive Media doesn’t report on all the Islamic Terrorism that is taking place in the world today.

I visited Cameroon once. Lovely scenery outside the cities, fresh air (basically because they have no technology to speak of) but dense population and lots of trash everywhere in the cities. Stable but corrupt government and everybody knows it’s going to go to crap when the current president dies and people are fighting to replace him. Those athletes know they can make plenty more money boxing or playing football in Europe, and we all know that Europeans can’t even muster the moral courage to enforce their own borders, so it seems like the obvious move to make.
Hey, here’s an interesting idea. A new rule for the Olympics should be that all Olympic athletes who qualify in their events should be given a free permanent green card to the country the games are held in. That way we could watch how many of them from each country choose to take their return flights. It’d be a final way all the nations could compete with one another. The TV people would love it because it’d get our attention back on the show in the final days.
