Just watched the landing and it was great. I remember watching one of the rovers land years ago and I think the same guy that did the play-by-play for that landing also did todays. Congratulations to NASA and all their people for an exceptional job well done.

I’m sure obama will attribute this success to NASA’s new moooslim outreach.

I will admit to being skeptical about the system and likelyhood of success. Glad I was wrong. Congrats Nasa. You slide rule guys rock.

Two thumbs up, NASA. We respect the engineering and planning that went into this journey. Next time, take Obama with you. It’s the only way we’re gonna get rid of him. Some of my friends don’t think he’ll leave even when voted out of office.

I think it is important to point out that the control room consoles for EDL were manned last night by students from Cal Tech who are studying different aspects of Engineering and Aerospace technology as part of their curriculum.

NASA sponsors the Jet Propulsion Laboratory but it is run by the California Institute of Technology. Imagine being one of those young people in that room last night, and having this successful landing on your transcripts and in your resume. This was as big of a technological step, and in some ways bigger, than the first manned landing on the moon.

Keep an eye open for some incredible pictures soon. The descent camera on the bottom of the rover was supposed to take 5 frames per second for about the last 2 minutes of the descent after the heat shield popped off. Should be an incredible sequence to see….
