Love Story
For months he had struggled to communicate, the power of speech fading with his life.
But hand-in-hand once more with the woman he had loved for 40 years, John Clark summoned his strength one last time.
‘Grace, I love you. Grace, I love you. I love you,’ the 86-year-old said to his frail wife, lying on a hospital bed, in Tampa, Florida.
Within 24 hours both had died peacefully.
‘I love you’: John Clark (left), who had been unable to speak for months, spoke clearly to tell wife Grace (right) his feelings as she lay in hospital. Within 24 hours they had both died peacefully
Mr Clark had been residing in an assisted living facility in Tampa, Florida. His wife Grace, 81, would visit him everyday until she suffered a heart attack in late June.
His step-son Fred Hearns, 63, told Mr Clark that his wife was sick but did not go into details until her condition deteriorated.
Then on July 22 he told his step-father that Mrs Clark was getting worse each day and then drove him to the hospital to visit his wife of more than 40 years.

Forty-five years experience tells me that this says it all:
“Rev David Green the pastor of the Allen Temple Church in Tampa, where Mr Clark served as a trustee, said: ‘They had a marriage that was grounded by their faith.’”

Lost values. Illegitimate children, abortion, coveting thy neighbors goods through welfare, lack of a work ethic, lack of an appreciation for education. Black pastors should be ashamed. There’s nothing left for the black family to be ashamed of.

What an incredible story. He found the ability to speak just when it was the most important.

He didn’t die from natural causes. He died because his heart was breaking. He knew that his wife would die shortly and he couldn’t bear to live without her. It’s that simple.

@ Maudie – I think you ought to re-word your last sentence. If it’s a black “FAMILY” you’re talking about, there’s plenty to be thankful for (and to lose). I’m looking at the word “stepfather” and wondering if Mrs. Clark’s “principles” arrived a bit late in the game. OK, maybe she was a war widow but, then again, maybe not. In any event, it all turned out for the best and stepson Hearns, albeit a community organizer, was at least employed long enough to retire.

@Boobie-The article highlights Lost black Values such as love and marriage and fidelity. The only hope for what is left of the black family was the black pastor because he was the only male figure in a young black man’s life, but he has failed them with too much pulpitizing about liberation theology and victimization and not enough about the Ten Commandments starting with Thou shalt not covet.

The story was sad but at the same time very uplifting. These two people found each other somewhat late in life but lived a full, love filled existense to the end. To die within a day of each other isn’t sad at all as neither one would have to live with the heartache of missing their life’s love to the end of their days but rather, they are back together in God’s grace. By the by, politics don’t belong in this story.
