Interestingly, Back in the spring of ’08 this is the very issue that first piqued my curiosity about Islam. I was doing a formal Bible study of Isaiah when Pakistan, representing the Organization of the Islamic Conference finally succeeded in passing the Islamic resolution on religious defamation before the U.N. Rights Council. Also interestingly, it was the major countries of the EU, Germany, GB, etc. who voted against it, saying that they were worried (rightfully) that first the Rights Council is too heavily represented by Arab and Islamic countries and that there is a growing worldwide trend of using religious anti-defamation laws to limit free speech.

I remember turning to my friend and fellow student and asking her, “When are Christians going to take a stand? When are we going to go Isaiah on all this stuff? You know, just like the U.S. Constitution, the Bible’s truths are just as relevant today as they were over 2,000 years ago. That’s the immutable thing about the truth.

(If you’ve never spent much time w/Isaiah, I highly recommend it.)
