He’s Not a Marxist/Socialist – He just wants to create the biggest welfare state the US has ever seen, that’s all, silly.
The Obama Regime has pushed hard to expand the welfare state, even going so far as to recruit foreigners with Spanish-language food stamp ads and to jettison the work requirement that made welfare reform so successful. As Gerri Willis points out, this is just the tip of the iceberg — and the iceberg is already titanic:
The federal government actually runs 126 separate anti-poverty programs. They’re managed by 13 different agencies. … The federal government runs 33 different housing programs: 21 programs to provide food, eight healthcare programs, 27 cash or general assistance programs. It’s hard to find a government department that doesn’t run an anti-poverty program. All this adds up — and this is just the federal government.
If you also include state and local spending, the government will spend nearly a trillion dollars this year fighting [i.e., subsidizing] poverty. That’s almost the size of the national deficit this year.

Follow the votes. Welfare parasites regularly vote for more of the same.

By this statement alone…one can see all of America’s ills can be laid at the feet of LBJ and the Democrats.
“Lyndon Johnson told us this was the way to build a Great Society.
Did we? Federal and state spending on social welfare is approaching $1 trillion a year, $17 trillion since the Great Society was launched, not to mention private charity. But we have witnessed a headlong descent into social decomposition.”

Perhaps it’s just silly to ask this, but are there government agencies set up to help you navigate all the other government agencies? Or is there just a suicide hotline for people who give up in despair?

More Emails from My Obama Buddies
President Barack Hussein Obama’s critics say he has reduced the country to a virtual economic basket case and that he and his re-election team are in process of reducing the presidency of the United States to the level of a carnival side-show with phony come-ons replete with hawking t-shirts and mugs and games of chance.
Well, they may be doing all that but it’s in a good cause–saving the nation from an evil Republican!
I know this because I’m the very proud recipient of personalized emails from various members of the Obama-Biden campaign committee and even some from Barack and Michelle and the vice president! At first, they arrived once or so a week but lately they’ve been filling up my in-box at an amazing rate, clear evidence that my buddies are working really hard.
A cynic might think the email flurry is only designed to raise $$$ for the cash-starved Obama-Biden campaign but I know better. Mostly, they’re intended to demonstrate a friendly effort to keep in touch with their supporters.
What follows are slightly-edited emails I’ve received in the last week, edited because some were very wordy despite how busy, busy, busy Obama and his team are down in D.C. and across the fruited plain. ,
The latest came from the president just today and the poor guy is sounding desperate. He mustn’t have much time to write because he was pretty brief. He asks for $3, of course, to enter his birthday sweepstakes and says, “My upcoming birthday next week could be the last one I celebrate as President of the United States, but that’s not up to me–it’s up to you.”
Yesterday, Juliana Smoot, Deputy Obama-Biden Campaign Manager, said a lot more.
She wrote, ”I’m no good at singing ‘Happy Birthday.’ I hope you’re better, because the President’s inviting two grassroots donors and their guests to celebrate his birthday with him at his home in Chicago on August 12th. Just pitch in $3 or whatever you can to support this campaign, and you’ll be automatically entered for the chance to be there. . . We’ve got a nice spot picked out for the event at the President’s family home in their beautiful South Side neighborhood.”
I thought that was sweet of Juliana but wondered whether the guy who finagled that family home for the Obamas, Tony Rezko, would be there until I remembered Rezko is in prison.
In any event, as always, . . .

@MaryfromMarin: it depends on who you are and what you want. If you are a taxpayer who needs some sort of government approval to do something, for example start a business or build something, you may be on your own or you may need to even retain a lawyer to help you through the government maze.
On the other hand, if you are a taker, just go to any welfare agency and they will be happy to assist you. In fact, they will give you information about benefits that you may not even know you were entitled to. It’s their job to give money away, and the more people to whom they give money, the more important they are.

@Wyatt–
Ah, I see–sort of a reverse filtration system.
I imagine the folks in your first paragraph might wish for a suicide hotline sometimes.
You seem so together most of the time (of course, that might just be Millard’s imperturbable face). What do you do when all this garbage becomes overwhelming (like, several times a day)? Coping skills are good things to share.

Why am I not surprised? It’s as if we weren’t wanted. Correction: our money is wanted, but we aren’t.

I was just talking to some people I had just met. She worked for FedEx and was actually almost physically unable to work. But she eschewed disability in order to keep working. Contrast with the “immigrants” who game the system to get life benefits. This is not a specious claim. I know that, no matter what their status, there are some (many) who receive not only welfare, but also disability, subsidized housing, free day care, food stamps, WIC, god knows what else. Their actual discretionary $$ are well in excess of the average blue collar worker. I have seen, many, many times, a person, well-clothed and well-fingernailed walk out of the grocery store at which I shop, having “paid” with every manner of ebt cards, coupons, and what have you, climb themselves and their ill-begotten children into a fuckin’ ESCALADE! And not an old one, either. Better car than I drive.

Has Moose published the caloric and fatty content of a squirrel and gopher yet? That’s all my family has been eating. Who are all these people that get these government stamps? Seriously, do I need to move to Chicago or something?

What I don’t understand is why anybody wants to be on welfare in the first place. Aside from the whole feel-bad aura of it (feeling like a moocher, which I realize is a feeling some people don’t experience), the money’s not that great. In fact minimum wage pays more.
Kaineva, I’ve heard those stories as well, and seen people like it. But it’s still beyond me how they do it because I know from experience how little the money is.

@ Kalneva & Lisi. How is the system gamed? From what I see in my neighborhood, it’s quite simple. A lot of these absentee daddies, are in fact, living with the momma. They are just not on record as living together. Single mother, father unknown. Dad has a job or hustles work where ever he can. Mom has been known to do a little work “under the table”. The two incomes, along with welfare, and other bennies adds up.

@Lisl – No, minimum wage doesn’t pay better.
With regard to the whole world of public assistance, I know of a few cases personally.
A buddy of mine got married young, popped a few kids, lost his job. Wife didn’t work. 3rd kid on way, couldn’t find a job. Wife had extended family very well versed in gaming the system, multigenerational welfare professionals.
Before he knew it, they had cash coming in, foodstamps, a gov’t program to pay their mortgage, healthcare, college tuition, the works. He went back to school full time, finished a degree, got a new and better job, never looked back. This guy is no mooch, he had a hard time dealing with taking all that but at the time he had no choice, and he did it for his family. Sometimes men take a black eye to the pride for their family.
I presently have a white collar professional job, but for a time I was “underemployed” and worked an hourly job with no benefits. I qualified for and took public assistance healthcare “benefits” through my state for a while. It came in handy. Now I don’t need it nor qualify for it and I got off it. It was there, I needed it, and I did it for my family.
Hey, why do we need obamacare when programs like that already exist? Hmmmm….
