Paper rejects lesbian couple’s wedding announcement
Same-sex marriage is illegal in North Dakota, but same-sex wedding announcements? Apparently they are, too – at least they are at the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead. The newspaper refused to print an announcement for Allison Johnson and Kelsey Smith (who is from Fargo), sending the couple a terse email that said the paper did not print “engagement and wedding announcements for same-sex couples.” The couple — to be wed on Aug. 1 in New York — were stunned. Johnson posted the email on her Facebook page, the story went viral, and the newspaper was soon inundated with complaints. On Monday, the paper announced it would review its policy, and today, its editor met with the couple. [Source]

If that were my newspaper, my response would have been: This is my newspaper, and I’ll run it the way I want to run it. If you don’t like it, don’t subscribe. Find some liberal rag to publish the sordid details of your perversions, because this newspaper won’t be doing so.

The newspaper has the right to refuse news or advertising as they see fit, if that is their policy.
A good newspaper has the balls to establish their own standards, whatever they want, and then stand by them.
The consumer of product has the right to either accept or reject the purchase of the publication.
It used to be called Freedom of the Press.
The two ladies can find a publication to print their announcement, it just might not be the one they want to make their statement in.
