Krauthammer: Aurora shooting a reminder that concerns for civil liberties may lead to improper treatment of mentally ill

Daily Caller

On Friday’s “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer, a board-certified psychiatrist, revisited a discussion from last year around the time Democratic Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head by an allegedly insane Jared Loughner: Is society properly handling the mentally ill?

In the wake of yesterday’s mass shooting at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater, Krauthammer suggested journalists and elected officials should focus on that question instead of playing politics with tragedy.

“I’m sure people like to draw application and look to society and all this stuff,” Krauthammer said. “Remember when we had a shooting in Tucson people began to shoot accusation, to level accusations that people in politics, tea party. We even had a false report this morning on ABC of a connection to the tea party which is not only scandalous, but stupid. Why would you even look in that direction?

Spending more money on the mentally ill, may take away money from the physically lazy.

…We even had a false report this morning on ABC of a connection to the tea party which is not only scandalous, but stupid. Why would you even look in that direction?

Has anyone ever considered perhaps the ones mentally ill are the ones reporting the news?

Even my CHIROPRACTOR said ‘…I find it very suspicious that this happened a week or so from when Obama and Hillary are supposed to sign the UN treaty.’

The theory is building that Judge Roll was the true target of Loughner, NOT Giffords. The judge was going to rule on Messican drug money being seized that was allocated to personal bank accounts in the U.S., implicating Holder’s DOJ and Big Sis.

Certainly, Loughner was unbalanced from the get-go. It wouldn’t have taken much encouragement to get him to do what he did.

Former FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt believes that Holmes had a low-level schizophrenia that was escalated when he failed an exam four weeks before the Aurora shooting. This is a guy who wasn’t used to failure.

These two thoughts don’t relate to the civil liberties issues the Kraut was talking about, just an FYI and FWIW.

“Why would you even look in that (to the Tea Party) direction?”

    Because, Chuck…
    - you must never let a good crisis go to waste.
    - the gummint media still employ Dan Rather’s “fake but accurate” threshold of veracity.
    - the official opposition (Conservatives) must be demonized at every opportunity.
    - they are desperate and spinning like mad to please their masters.

    For a start.

James Holmes is clearly a sociopath like many of the LEFT, who given the power would unleash similar extermination upon people who wouldn’t go along with their agenda.

We really need to change the way we deal with mental illness.

My brother is a paranoid schizophrenic. He was in and out of jail and mental institutions for a couple of years. He threatened my dad and me and assaulted my dad twice. We were literally told that they couldn’t do anything until he killed somebody. Well, he did. He shot my dad 12 times and he was on his way to get me when they caught him.

Why did the judge allow him to come into court with his orange hair? Why haven’t we heard a peep about his parents other than “flew to Denver”. Is he talking to them? What was his upbringing? If he’s a member of the tea party, bring it forward. If his father is a Democrat party contributor, bring that forward. Where’s Breitbart?

“Mostly, we are terrified of terror without cause. It feeds no agenda, it supports no doctrine, its takes no side. The pitiful attempt to assign it purpose reveals our darkest fears—that sometimes evil has no design. Sometimes, it has no rhyme or reason.”
