OBAMA IS RIGHT

Home - by - July 19, 2012 - 13:21 America/New_York - 29 Comments

UPDATE:

The Valium and vodka kicked in and I’ve decided that this post sounds too shrill and can be interpreted by people I like as an attack on them and it may cause people to be afraid to share our artwork.

So, this post will simply be this now:

People, we LOVE when you share our content,  but please keep the iOwnTheWorld logo on the art. We need it to be there in order to pay our bills.

If you take our logo off than Obama is right – YOU DIDN’T BUILD THAT!

THANK YOU!

That sucks, I would be just as pissed off. Isn’t there was a way to lock images on the internet so that they can’t be stolen or modified?..

“My enemy is not an ideology, it is shitweaselism”

You contradicted yourself. Unless you’re thinking shitweaselism is a religion.

I simply meant that shitweaselism knows no political ideological border -bfh

I’m skeptical of calling someone a conservative who would do this. More crony capitalist which says “liberal” to my way of thinking (but “scumbag” is good, too).

Hey Big Fur, I find your graphics funny and profound and share them on FB with my friends but always tagged with the line, “I found this at I Own The World. My intent is that others find it interesting enough to come over and visit your website. Are you cool with that? If you aren’t I will cease and desist.

I can not stress this enough. WE LOVE THAT PEOPLE SPREAD OUR IMAGERY AROUND. It’s why we do what we do. Nothing pleases us more. People who forward our stuff, reprint our stuff on their blogs, facebook, twitter, e-mail to grandma, etc. are our best advertisers. That’s why we have the share buttons under all of our posts.

BUT OUR CREDIT MUST STAY INTACT!!!!!

As soon as someone is removing our credit they are the scummiest of scumbaggery and I would just as soon kick them until they are dead. It’s hard enough trying to hang in there sacrificing family, money, social life and health in order to get Obama and progressives out of office, but to be whacked over the head by your own side is hard to take.
It’s bad enough we pay out of pocket to keep iOTW afloat, but to try and cut in on our content for their own gain is disheartening. Every stolen image that goes viral means that we don’t get the traffic that would have generated, which in turn pays to cover our bandwidth, hosting, anti-virus, anti-attack, security expenses.

I guess you’ll start putting a watermark on them, like the istock photos. It really does need to be on the important part of image to safeguard your rep, otherwise its just too easy to cut off the top or bottom of the image.

No. The church doors in my parish stay open despite being robbed dozens of times. Otherwise the locked doors are a symbol of your failure, so what would be the point?
I wouldn’t create art and then obliterate it with some obnoxious testament to the worst of mankind. I’d rather not do it anymore.
Artwork has been signed in the corners of art for centuries. If that standard has to be changed because of assholes, then they’ve won. The day an asshole beats me at anything is the day you never hear from BFH again.

What can I say, Fur? Life isn’t fair…?

Now, *I* suspect that every last one of them is a “forced birther” — not a founding fathers/Constitutionalist, political conservative/libertarian. Check it out.

    ….Lady in Red

C’mon!! Seriously. Do you have to make this moment about YOU and your cause? I’m at a crossroads here and you’re not fucking helping. You’re only exacerbating the feeling that I have of being exploited.

    BFH:

I ALWAYS make sure you get attribution, because I greatly admire your work. And that’s what the “share” button is FOR, right?

Sorry to hear about the shitweaselism, but know that MOST conservatives, at least those worthy of the name, don’t do this shit. But you knew that, didn’t you?

Thank you. Yes, that is exactly what the share button is for.
People generally suck. It’s been my observation that the people who don’t suck tend
to congregate on the right. But there are still plenty of assholes on the right, or at least pretend to
    be on the right.
I was stiffed out of $5000 by BRIAN REILLY who ran in a primary in DWS district in Florida.
He ran on “championing small businesses.”

Hey BFH – I sent you the WSJ article via the “info” address – seems your stuff is really popular.

You should send something to the WSJ if you want to get the attention of the conservative shitweasels.

    Can you resend to bigfurhat.mail@gmail.com?

    Czar,
If I go to my spreadsheet, I see that I lose more time and money chasing these fucknuts than I do if I just made more art.
iOTW people shouldn’t be subjected to these posts.
You guys, who are supporters and don’t do anything wrong, shouldn’t have to see these rants.

I’ve used many pieces of your art work. And I always leave the logo on. HOWEVER; I’ve used work from other sources, that didn’t have any logo on it, then visited here and found the very same pic with the logo. So in that regard if there’s anything on my site with a picture you did and the logo is removed no malice was intended and I’ll gladly replace it with yours if you send me the original.

@BFH, as an artist who has been ripped off many times myself, I totally understand your rage. And it is justified!

But I think you have (wisely) realized that it ultimately comes down to a “cost/benefit” analysis.
In this case, the “benefit” is quite considerable… fairly or not, the “message” is being spread way beyond the reaches of IOTW.
The cost is…well…we KNOW what the cost is.

Other than severely comprising the integrity of the art, via huge watermarks or other blatant logo marks, what can you do?
And throwing in the towel is not an option. You are the best at what you do.

Fur, your post was fully in order and in no way off-putting. Your valium and vodka may be making you turn weak and sentimental…or at least mental.

    Carpenters/Masons know better.
Skip the grout and wood glue, and proceed directly to your “Honorary Architect’s” WHISKEY and GRAPHITE (or, if not in the room, the next available female drafter).

Welcome to my world Fur. You’re now in the world I own! One where you work your ass off to give people the absolute best quality service you can create because your livlihood depends on your reputation for not only being talented and skilled, but honest and genuinely invested in doing things right no matter what… and in return you get screwed like a female news correspondant at an Egyptian “Freedom and Democracy” celebration! Far too often, the very people that you go out of your way to help, will intentionally yet unnecessarily cheat you just because they can! Makes me so mad I can’t see straight some times. Especially when it causes you to have to “stiff” the people who were depending on you. I’m no artist, obviously. But I am self-employed. And in this economy, my business is barely staying afloat… mostly (ok completely) out of sheer stubbornness, and stupidity. I enjoy the work I do. I fix people’s houses, many of whom couldn’r afford to get it fixed otherwise. Hell, I give away as nuch work as I charge for. I Like helping people. And there are a LOT of people who need my help. And the work I do charge for, I charge FAR less than I could. A LOT less than any other company who is going to do the job right. It’s why I’m a couple of months from turning 40, and I have less money in the bank than I did when I was a teenager! It’s why I constantly fight an uphill battle to get out of debt and not have to feel like I have to take every job that comes along even if I have to cut my prices even lower, because “something is better than nothing”… Which makes it hurt that much worse when I agree to do a job for little more than minimum wage because the customer plays me like a sucker at a blackjack table. And then they get amnesia when it’s time to pay! This month (and last)one literally had amnesia, well actually Alzheimers, but whatever. How do you hound an old lady with alzheimers over a couple hundred bucks? In June, I priced a $7000 restoration at $3500 because I needed the work, and I knew the retired couple would never be able to get the house fixed right if I didn’t do it. I managed to collect about 1/2 of my money on that one before I just gave up trying. Out of the 6 piddly jobs I’ve done in the past month, I’ve either been put off or outright stuck on 4 of them!!! I’m the Peter Bailey of the remodeling industry… I love what I do, and I’m damn good at it, but I SUCK at being a bidnessman! Ever heard of a “Bleedin Heart Conservative”? I’m as bad as Obama is at Foreign Policy! So join the crowd and keep doing what you love. Because the alternative ain’t worth the soul-crushing defeat it would signify!!!

Sorry that turned into a “Me Me Me” rant. Once I started, it just had to come out!

    Thumb up 0
