Students are suing the state of Michigan and their Detroit-area school district for violating their “right to read.”

The class-action lawsuit appears to be the first of its kind, and potentially signals a new wave of civil rights litigation in the United States to enforce laws intended to boost academic achievement, education law experts say.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan filed what it has dubbed the “right to read” lawsuit on behalf of the nearly 1,000 students in the impoverished district.

Two-thirds of 4th-graders and three-quarters of 7th-graders in the Highland Park school district are not proficient on state reading tests; 90 percent of 12th-graders fail the reading portion of the final state test administered in high school, according to the complaint. Nearly 100 percent of the district’s students are African-American.

Oh, this is good. I don’t even know where to begin. This case should be called People v. Progressives.

Let’s break down this case.

-Progressives take over the public school system because they know better.

- Progressives don’t know shit.

- Progressives pay minorities to shut up and be ignorant.

- Minorities play along.

- Progressive media legitimizes and embraces ignorant black culture instead of shaming it.

- Public funds dry up and their town turns to shit.

- They can’t afford to get out.

- They can’t fill out a job application.

- The compact they had with progressives is broken and they sue them for cruelty, incompetence and exploitation.

If the plaintiffs win the left loses.

If the defendants win the left loses.

The major downside to all of this is that, as usual, the responsible, hardworking, intelligent tax payer is going to get it in the ass.

But this is still fun.

Looks like the Teachers’Union has some ‘splaining to do. I’m loving this. It’s going to blow the whole scam wide open. Think the MSM will cover it?

I’m no fan of teachers’ unions. But I spent ten years teaching high school in the ‘inner city’. Here’s the unspoken secret of inner city schools. They perform poorly because a significant portion of inner city school students are terminally stupid. Those same stupid kids begin and end their academic careers with an adamant refusal to lift a finger on their own behalf. They don’t show up. When they do show up, they won’t work. Their parents were exactly the same, as were the grandparents. When reading can be taught by osmosis perhaps they’ll learn. Too bad for the few who have the capacity to do well. The morons ruin it for them.

It sounds like the perfect liberal scam to me. If the schools loses, taxes go up to pay out the award and then the school will say they need more money so they can teach kids better, and the idiot politicians will give it to them. If the schools win, they’ll say they “see how good we are, now give us a raise!” and the idiot politicians will give it to them…

    We can’t hold Progressives accountable.
Tyrone can’t read? Well, that’s not our fault. We gave him books, fed him, stroked his self esteem. My guess is. We didn’t spend enough money on him.

As one who lives in the general area, the cry is ALWAYS raaaaaacccciiiissssttttt.

If anyone dare tell the truth – no families, no dads, no mothers who give a sh!t, nobody working (selling crack and stealing copper ain’t ‘work’), and it’s all cause “The Man” be the white devil.

Oh yea, the unions make sure no incompetent sh!ty teach ever gets fired. Where’s Jesse and Sharpton? Oh yea, they be marchin for Trayvon.

@ Becca – Amen. As much I whined growing up that my public school friends had it better, I have repeatedly thanked my parents for being parents and keeping me in the Catholic schools.
